that's what makes the different, Harimoto can use defense shots to his advantage while Uda and most other JPN players struggle in this area. Beside, he has improved his forehand immensely in this string of tournament to close the loophole
That reminds me of Miyazaki's comment after Zennihon Takkyu 2024, that Miwa's brother is essentially a defender...

MS SF
LGY 3-1 AJH (6, -8, 3, 6)
Poor AJH, always coming up short. Lots of SF and F finishes.

All that careful planning has gone down the drain... Train wreck for SYB incoming.

XD F
WCT/DHK 1-3 Harimoto/Hayata (-3, -8, 9, -8)

Congrats to Harimoto and Hayata. Thar said, there are many dangerous XD teams at the Olympics, so it isn't all about avoiding China in the semis. Shin and Lin and of course Lin and Chen or Wong and Doo can still show up at the worst places. Then the French, Swedes, North Koreans and the Spaniards are all dangerous. The draw will say a lot.

Careful planning down the drain likely (especially if Harimoto plays singles). Train wreck... well I doubt that - her play is still the biggest influence on that.

This Hashimoto SYB matchup is producing the most incredible highlight worthy rallies of the entire event. So many great plays, especially when Hashimoto switches to attack to end a point.
Just woke up, and Ito and Hashimoto match starting soon, but the Hashimoto/SYB will be the 1st match I watch after the Live ones. I want Hashimoto to complete the Cinderella run. She's poetry in motion.

Ito 4-2 Hashimoto (6, -12, -4, 5, 8, 5)
A pushing contest? Ugliest-ever win against a chopper from Ito.

WS QF
Szocs 1-3 Ito (-10, 7, -11, -12)
Good thing Ito is not going to Paris. Such an eyesore. No growth for the past 4 years. Just a reshuffle of old tricks.

LGY 0-4 Harimoto (-3, -8, -6, -9)
G3 06, 36 TO for Harimoto, 66, 68, 611
G4 42, 44 TO for LGY, 45, 55, 56, 76, 77, 87, 810, 911
Harimoto covered his middle really well this time. He still has something up his sleeve.

Back-to-back Triple Crown.

Harimoto is more willing to finish the point with his FH here. As soon/long as his FH comes/stays online, his game becomes very consistent and the loopholes close up.

As I noted at WTT CT Zagreb 2024, he's been playing with a set of rules and trying out various tactics.

G3 5:4
https://youtu.be/an_v9DnTnoQ?t=7526
He has added another step to the FH steparound, a crucial step that has been missing before.
G3 8:6
https://youtu.be/an_v9DnTnoQ?t=7697
He has also started flicking parallel more.

4-0 for Harimoto. i just saw the last 2 games
im surprised Lin Gao Yuan looked like a zombie. it didnt feel he was fighting at all
he was just serving a beginner like backhand serve. Tomokazu seemed rather pleased at that

was LGY injured or just collapsed mentally ????

He didn't know what to do. He didn't seem in his usual form during this tournament. Was he training with the team and then came to Bangkok?

This has got to be a huge morale boost for Team Japan winning all the titles at the Star Contender Bangkok going into Paris:

MS: Tomo
WS: Mima Ito
MD: Tomo/Matsushima
WD: Sato/Hashimoto
XD: Tomo/Hayata

Not even Chinese scouts Chen Xingtong or Lin Gaoyuan could spoil the party.

Yeah though one has to admit that it was a pretty watered down Star Contender. Hopefully Olympic prep will remain strong fir all teams and we will see everyone's best in Paris.
