probably didn't know such rule exists.
there was 3 missed calls in 1 shot, this must be some record inside the century long history of table tennis.

I'm probably opening a can of worms I shouldn't but I have a feeling if a Chinese doubles pair rather than a Japanese pair was given a free second chance at a match that they already lost, we would be hearing a lot more discussion about this, both on this forum and elsewhere...

Odo's immediate reaction was to look directly at the umpire. She knew.

My take is that Hwan Bae was actually the better player for most of the match and lost game 2 from 9-7 up allowing Yoshiyama to play quality shots. I am a bit disappointed in Yoshiyama's game, it seems he is a player who needs a cosch to play his best as he didn't really make good tactical choices amd adjustments. He played like a one gear player (a worse Togami).
I started watching somewhere around mid game 3 and haven't gotten to the rest yet, perhaps we'll hear from Hwan soon but a good win and a big shock nonetheless.

This Aida/Hashimoto XD combo is so fun to watch. I only watched 2 of their matches and already know I will be tuning into every match of theirs in the future. Their amazing footwork really pays dividends putting them in good position to switch to offense and finish points.

Honoka should have attacked more after Miwa's time out at 1:4 in the 5th game. The only strategy that Miwa could change was to slow down and push more. Honoka seemed to follow that change without changing her own strategy. If she attacked more, I think Miwa should have been more nervous. And Honoka was 3 points up, not much harm to try to change a little bit.

Hindsight is always 20-20 and the expedite would argue you were right. It's getting to a point where Miwa will get so good it won't matter or Honoka will need to improve her offensive game which is already good but she just needs to get better so that expedite is not a problem.

I think Honoka did not do too badly after the expedite rule applied. It was bad to go from 4:1 to 4:6(?) without adjusting. Honoka did punch on the backhand once and it went into the net and it probably stopped her to attack more.
I think she should have pivoted to play more forehand loop as Miwa mainly pushed at that point of time.
