Just thought I'd make a post about this blade and my experience with it. Yasaka Masamune. 3 ply hinoki blade, all wood, weighing around 86 grams.

Like many people who have seen Satoshi Aida play I immediately became enamoured with his unique style. A quick check on his Instagram page led me to buy the Masamune racket and the Rakza 7 rubbers he was using on both sides at the time so I could transition away from using long pimples on BH on my old Harimoto ALC. What started as an experiment turned into a whole new venture for me and this has been my main (pretty much only) racket for the last year. My first impressions were as a normal offensive racket I thought this was great but how Aida chops heavy loops with Rakza 7 on BH is insane and I found it extremely difficult especially against the slow spinnier ones... Aida really has an amazing feeling for the Rakza 7 which I cannot come close to. I had to switch to less catapulty rubbers and eventually settled on Yinhe Apollo 5 (36 degrees)on BH. This improved my chopping almost immediately. My go to shot under pressure on BH side is always a chop and a slower Chinese rubber like Apollo 5 which has a lot less sensitively to the incoming spin really helped.

This is marketed on the Yasaka website as an all-around blade but this thing has serious gears and is as fast if not faster than my old Harimoto racket. You can win points outright on speed alone depending on how hard you hit. The feeling is 10/10. It literally becomes an extension of your arm. I've used a few different rubbers on FH. Rakza 7 and Zyre 03 have both worked very well but I recently put a Gewo Nexxus El Pro 43 degree on FH and it really helped my consistency and defensive strokes especially against much stronger opponents where I can outplay them with placement and control and changing the pace with heavy chops.

My only fault with this blade is when it's humid and hot inside the hall the handle (mines flared) can get a bit slippery, it can feel a little loose in your hand when you are adjusting your grip in the serve, but this may be an issue with me and my sweaty hands after hours of playing. I am coming from a harimoto ALC blade however and that has the best handle I've ever felt though and nothing comes close in my opinion 😂

Has anyone else used this blade and what rubbers have you tried on it? Would love to hear your thoughts?

Picture attached is my spare Masamune I was lucky enough to get signed by Aida himself when I got to meet him at WTT Ljublana (Super nice guy by the way). It really was so good I had to buy two... The plan was to experiment with a few different rubber set ups but I never got the chance because once he signed it I keep it in the sitting room at home 😂

This is the one blade I never got around to actually trying, but I absolutely love the versatility of Aidas game and I think it has potential to suit me.
Have you ever tried a harder Chinese tacky rubber on it, like Skyline or Hurricane? Or did you try the Apollo on the FH?
And how is the balance, does it get head heavy?

No, I've only tried a couple on BH. The Rakza 7 in 2.00mm and the Apollo 5. I never liked playing Chinese rubbers on FH because I never boosted them and they required way too much energy/technique to hit them well... but I have messed around with the Apollo 5 on FH just by twiddling and I didn't like it. Maybe it's because it's soft. When you are used to tensor rubbers doing most of the work for you it's hard to switch back 😅 on BH though the Apollo works extremely well. I can grip and rip everything close to the table and if I get pushed back for whatever reason I can usually just chop and work my way back in.

As for the head heavy thing it's not an issue. I think the blade with Apollo 5 2.1 and Zyre 03 was only weighing about 178 grams which is fairly light. The racket shape is slightly wider horizontally and maybe a bit shorter vertically than most other rackets which makes swapping used rubbers over a pain but I think it helps with maximizing the sweet spot when brushing, pushing and chopping. It's really a lovely racket.

I have it with H3N and VS>401 in 1.5mm. Fun blade with many gears. 3 ply hinoki blades have a history of defensive use, but in a time when rubbers was slow. Aida used Mark V initially and his setup was overall slower.

H3 and TG3 are good for chopping, no matter the blade. 401 is better for blocking. But I don't play much with this setup due to my focus on pips game. One day I will put some pips on Masamune...

Is Zyre 03 too fast for this blade? Are you able to chop on FH?

I used the zyre mainly for attack and pushing on forehand. Never really chop with it. The catapult effect makes it quite hard. Oddly enough I was using vS>401 in 2.1mm on backhand for a while but I also found it far too bouncy and catapulty for my game and switched to something slower.

I don't think Aida uses R7, pretty sure he uses some Yasaka Dragon rubber (Shining or Rising Dragon 2?) on bh and Rakza Z Extrahard fh
I think he was using rising dragon over a year ago on BH but at the time I picked this blade up he had posted his setup onto his Instagram story and it was Rakza 7 both sides before he transitioned to Rakza Z extra hard on FH. As far as I know he's still using Rakza 7 on backhand but may be using Rakza 7 extra hard on his forehand now since that was released.

I saw this post most recently:
Not on his personal account so it may be inaccurate but it seems like a chopper would want to use tacky rubbers on a stiffer blade with the 40+ ball

Yeah I seen that post too. When I commented on it asking where he got the information from, that Aida had definitely switched to Rakza 7 last year as per her Instagram posts that Instagram page just deleted my comment and messaged me telling me he is an expert and I shouldn't argue with him and then blocked me 🤣 I think he just gets his information from outdated sources like ping Sunday or whatever the first result is that comes back from Google...

Attached is the story I seen which is the setup he was using at the time I bought it (translated from Japanese)...

The most recent post I see from the official Japanese Yasaka website also translated from Japanese is dated February 2026 and it says his equipment is Rakza 7 BH and Rakza Z extra hard FH...

Also at a recent product demonstration about Rakza 7 hard he had this to say... I'm not sure if he officially switched to it however...
