We set up a controlled lab test to measure the actual Input vs. Output energy of the rubber. Instead of just hitting and guessing, we calculated the incoming ball speed/spin and measured exactly what the ball looks like leaving the racket.
The Setup:
  • Blade: Butterfly Viscaria Super ALC
  • Red: Dignics 09c (2.1mm) - The Control
  • Black: Zyre-03 (2.7mm) - The Challenger
  • Method: High-speed motion analysis + PongFox Robot for consistent feeding.

Drop a suggestion below on what we should test next. If there is enough interest and if it’s a test we can actually pull off here, we will make it happen in Part 2.

Is this in any way useful to real game situations if the racket is stationary?
There are different ways to look at data, one is without any external force, this is for that. I am planning to do some with me playing topspin with both and collecting information on the spin and speed which will be another set of data

but my friend, is there a way to measure scientifically if the racket is non-stationary?

There will be some variance but I am thinking if I hit say a few topspin with zyre and then repeat it with dignics 09c then on an average we should get some objective data. If this works then I can ask other players to do the same and then we get some valid numbers

thinking of something like this

Nice test! Although it a bit limited to only showing how the rubbers behave for passive blocking and maybe serve return.
But it is clear that 09c is way less spin sensitive and absorbs opponents speed better making it more controlled. Makes sense since it is semi-tacky I assume.

I agree with previous poster that it would be even more interesting to compare Z3 with D05.

True, I am looking at finding someone with that combination so that I can borrow it for testing.

I am not sure why it is Zyre vs 1 other rubber, and not like this:

Zyre numbers: xxx
D09C numbers: xxx
Rubber N3: xxx
...

I thought you had the numbers for other rubbers too, no?
You performed similar tests in the past.
