Hi everyone

I'm a player from Belgium, ranked around 90th, I think (which is +- 40th in England and also +- 40 in the Netherlands, and around 400 in France I believe). I am an attacking player with my forehand over all of the table, but I also like far away from the table backhand and opening up from time to time with the backhand. I have Timo Boll ALC as a blade, Tenergy 05 in the forehand and Rakza 7 (which serves as a cheaper Tenergy 05) in the backhand. Now, my backhand doesn't satisfy me. In training I love my backhand loops, but in competition it is useless, because I run around all the time (which I cannot stop to do, I have tried many many times). Just when lobbing my backhand is really satisfying, because the counter attack is not very hard.

I am absolutely crap in blocking with my backhand and counter hitting (in a match, because in exercices it is a bit easier). I played with a friend's blade 2 weeks ago and it suddenly was so easy, as if I did it already for years. He had Butterfly Bryce Speed in the backhand. Now, I would like to buy that rubber (actually a cheaper alternative Joola express one), but I am afraid that topspinning will be a disaster, and I would still like to be able to spin with my backhand when in a rally and forced 2 meters from the table, then hitting the ball will not be very effective.

Anyone has an idea what is a good middleground? Great for blocking and counter hitting, but still with a decent ability to loop and a high enough throw, because that of butterfly bryce speed was a VERY low throw with little spin. But I liked the blocking and counter hitting so much, so I would like to have a good middle ground!

Thanks in advance!

I fail to understand how any player who is so high ranked and is EASILY an ELITE amature or semi-pro player could NOT know such a thing. I get it that many pros do not understand why such and such a thing makes a blade play better, but they ALL know RIGHT AWAY what is good or bad for them. Such a class of player has a gazillion people around them who know...

Just sayin'.

I have to say, I kind of agree with Der_Echte on this. Something seems kind of off here.

Even the logic process is off. This statement has really made me scratch my head.

I played with a friend's blade 2 weeks ago and it suddenly was so easy, as if I did it already for years. He had Butterfly Bryce Speed in the backhand. Now, I would like to buy that rubber (actually a cheaper alternative Joola express one), but I am afraid that topspinning will be a disaster...

First off, if Bryce Speed worked for you, why would you think of trying something different! Joola Express One is not Bryce Speed. Second off, if you are #90 in Belgium, wouldn't you be surrounded by people who would have enough different stuff for you to try that you would know what you wanted to use!

All that being said, IF BRYCE worked for you, GET IT; Try it; test it out. Find out for real if it works for you.

At an Elite level it makes no sense to try and get something that is like something else. Table Tennis rubbers don't work that way. Nothing is a replacement for Tenergy or Bryce. And Tenergy is not a replacement for Evolution MX-P or another high end rubber like Rhyzm. They may all be good rubbers but they are different. Get what you want. Not a cheaper version that is "supposed" to be "like" what you want.

Well, that escalated quickly. Haha, semi-pro for practicing once a week, sometimes twice, is a bit overstated. I am just not the kind of guy who is into rubbers and many people aren't. Just sticking with what they became good.

I would buy the bryce speed, but i am not only planning to block and counter, so i am looking for something more in between. But okay, apperently i cannot ask those questions. Yes tenergy 64 is an option i would like to try, but my club is not going to be happy about it, because it is so expensive. And there are good replacements for tenergy, for example rakza 7 is a good replacement for tenergy 05

Adidas tenzone ultra is also good i heard

What you honestly should try are some of the newest rubbers that were developed for the poly ball. There are a bunch that have great control and art the same time, a ton of spin.

Evolution series
Rasant series
Victas series
Rhyzm series
Bluefire series

Choose your version (hardness) from any of them.
