You know at the start of the games sometimes you roll up the ball to see who starts. One person rolls other guesses and the winner gets to decide whether they want to serve or return.

Do you have any tactic about rolling up?

e.g. Left handers guess to the left hand, Penholders put it in their righthand.

Hahah. I love it. Trying to develop a tactic for something that is purposefully random to make it fair.

I have a tactic. If the other person does the hide the ball part here are my tactics. If he wins, I am happy and hope he chooses to serve first. If I win I give him the ball and make him serve first. If I do the roll, then I am even happier. I roll the ball and I keep the ball in my hand, palms up and my hands above the table, so he can see which hand the ball is in. If he chooses the ball and wants to serve first, I am happy. If he doesn't choose the ball, I choose that he serves first.

So over 90% of the time my opponent serves first.

The reason I want my opponent to serve first is that in the first game, if the score is 9-9 then I get two serves to close the game. Every odd number game that will be the case. So in a best of 5 that goes to 5 there will be 3 games where I have the possibility to close the game out with my serve.

In those games, it also means, any time it goes to deuce, I am serving on the Advantage Serve which means I can close the game if it is my Ad and I can save the game point if the opponent has the Ad.

So, I would rather the other person serves first. And I can't tell you how many matches I have won when serving out at 9-9 in the 5th.

It is only rarely that someone figures out the trick, chooses the ball, and makes me serve first.

Most people don't know, but if the person chooses to serve, the other person can choose which side to play from.

I put the ball the same side my bat is. Often, opponent wins this serve "toss" decision. I am happy with that, I hate serving first anywayz. The few times I win the "Toss" I elect to give away serve.

Der_Echte was one of the few people who figured out how to get me to serve first. Hahaha.

Sometimes i like to make sad the players who like to serve first by standing straight(not bending the knees) and holding the ball with the legs, and when the opponent chooses, I only show him the hand he chose, while picking the ball from between the knees with the other hand.

This will also work for UpSideDownCarl and Der_Echte :D.
