What oils can be used as boosters?

Have tried paraffin on the Big Dipper sponge twice now. First time straight on the sponge. Second time on the preped layer of glue on the sponge. Applying the rubber with a VOC-based glue. The rubber wont be glued down to anything until the dome sets. Once the dome set I glued it down, left it under preasure for 1 day and night. Played it the next day. Loved it.
Played it day two, not as great but still ok!
Played it day 3. Effect I felt on day one is just about gone.

Need to find something that penetrates this sponge and stay in there. The sponge needs to soften up. Right now it feels like NextLevels stiff upper lip.. ;)

Hey Liten, quick questions, Im going to try big dipper after my H3 dies :D

is the BigDipper that you boost a brand new?
did you remove the factory tuned glue?
what's the hardness?
how does the sponge hardness compared to H3? I mean like, is 39 h3 = 39 BD?

Thanks :)

For Fanz. Hi?
1. Yes - twice again! (Ok, enouch with the strongbad-jokes..)
2. I did not see any factory tuned glue. Maby this is why the rubber feels like a brick? I tuned the sponge right out of the box! (I did however remove the plastic foil covering the back and front)
3. 38 deg

I actually don't know the sponge hardness of the H3 neo Ive got. Sorry. :/
I bet its 38 as well.
The big dipper feels harder in some ways. The lack of tack however makes the BD easier to pair with a euro style rubber in my opinion.

Factory tuned does not mean it comes with glue on it. I think that should just mean it has been boosted in the factory. If the rubber was sitting on the shelf at the factory or distributor's for a while the boost effect could easily wear off.

Sorry, I now see the Big Dipper did have a layer of "boosted" glue on it from the factory.
This is the first thing I will remove on the next arc so I can get down in the sponge for real!
Thanks Hamazaki for posting this question!!

Big Dipper definitely has a glue layer for the tuning. Of course, that's insufficient for many...

Ill post back thaughts on that layer after next weeks playing.
In my mind it was both heavy and made the sponge much stiffer than it actually is.
Totally different feel to the sponge now. Not at all like the glossy, chinese type sponges.

First day of play after gluing I thaught: man what a rubber. Next day: where did that super nice feeling go?

I think your better of peeling that layer of in the long run. Ill get back on the subject.

And you are not afraid of bubling the rubber ?

Not at all. Never happened to me yet.
I keep the rubber "sponge up" and usually keep a light weight on it during drying.

Now there is a third layer on it, a card board box and a gerber baer grylls parang, as the card board box was not enough to keep it down. ;)

No Liten nooooo, why did remove that glue :(

from what I heard, if the rubber comes with factory tuned glue, dont remove it, just glue it immediately, it's like the best state of the rubber. However, after a while the effect will come off, that's when you should remove the glue altogether and boost it.

I didnt remove the glue at first. I played with the boosted original glue-layer on the rubber. Ive used it on 2 different blades. I actually re-boosted the gluelayer straight out of the box! Glued it to one of my Bandas. It was good about a week. Then faded. Took it of. Re-boosted it again. Re glued it to my "new" PG7. GREAT for a day. Second day, naa, third day, totally flat.
I will repost in this thread after next weeks play. The rubber feels much more like a eurorubber with the original glue layer of. I hope the performance will match the expectations I have on this one now. :)

oh, what do you think of your PG7? I just sold mine 3 days ago LOL

Haha! I think its a real good blade for the money. Still, it needs to be pared with the right rubbers.
Losing 2 sets with the PG7 and a "dead" big dipper on FH, then picking up my Banda with 2 vivid Rakza 7's and winning is not testing. Just a matter of physics. ;)
