So, im turning "gubbe" next year and thaught to myself, its time to get that midlife crisis sorted out.. and, a new blade sure is cheaper than a harley..
So, emailing away with Laszlo over at Osp blades we have sorted out what can be done and what can't.
They have no way to make a copy of my banda-blades, but they make such fine blades, so ill choose one of them and order a custom handle on it.
The handle im choosing is a tribute to what I think is one of the most beautiful blades made, the Stiga Ehrlich. Sort of a mix of a cpen and a regular length handle, cut with an angle between them. Drilled holes like the original. My hope is that the balance will be better than on a cpen blade, and still not as long as my banda-handles.
Handle wood: Really dark wood.
Handle shape: Cpen / elcon-ish but with the Ehrlich cut at the end.
A mix of these pictures:
As a tribute, im having them put "Honest" on the handle.
The weight id like to keep pretty high. 90-95g.. Ill try to get them to use dense wood in the handle. Maby ebony or wenge will help.
My other thaughts are these:
Headsize: small - the bandas I play have smaller headsize than most blades. Love it. I do not like the headshape's of the modern cpen blades.. I find them too long.
Handle orientation:
This is a tough one.
FH - i think. Hoping to further help with the penhold grip on both forhand and rbp.
Sadly, that may make it more difficult playing traditional penhold backhand = not good.
But: What blade do i choose?
Id say im an off-oriented player. Like for most players, spin and speed is important to me. My bandas do have some flex, but are stiff and real heavy for five ply all wood blades. Im sure thats why they kick both the Dhs PG7 and Stiga Hybrid Wood out of the water.
So:
Im down to these 3:
