I think the Chinese indeed gave away the fight as they were not in the mood to play.

you're funny, replay the video of the match. The Chinese played their best shots. They were surprised by the young Japanese, they didn't give away the match. They were leading 2 nil and had 3 match points in the decider. The home crowd was cheering a lot.

Chinese lost, and it was a real and huge upset. WR2 and WR3, (doubles world champion) lost to teenagers in front of their homecrowd. If anything, it was a good enough reason to fire them and LGL. LOL

Harimoto was not the best player, Kizukuri was the best player around the table. He's awesome and I'm sure he will be in the Olympic squad someday.

Same level as North Korea? I'm starving now, mercy.....
That dude was hilarious.

No offences to anyone. Just meant to say same level at oppressing people and spreading propoganda. PS - My wife is from a chinese -korean family who moved to Korea. You are only good till you play hunky dory with administration and thats what I hear over and over from family and friends.

looking at the recent protests by china team its close to be a give a way my friend . yes harimoto is going to be a good player day by day but beating the 2017 wttc world champions with a partner who is inexperience too seem more funny . ofcourse you should support your country men but whih what happened and shocked every one it looks like a gift which chinese gave to japanese .

its not my countrymen, i'm French, ok ? its not a gift. What happened to LGL was AFTER the match and they played the match seriously. Just watch it. Very Lame excuses. Sore losers.

in the post doubles interview, XU Xin said he was totally ready to play against Harimoto in singles afterwards.

but even if u are not japanese but the flag there shows your love or relation to this country . xu xin and fan zhendong didnt fight . they can handle that 2 kid easily . and about xx . with what they planned it wasn't logical to say their plan by saying I'm not gonna play vs harimoto today guys . Lets give an other gift to japanese :p but again these are not certain so dont think about it so much

Post-match interview FZD said that Kizukuri played well and was the greater threat, and that many of his shots put pressure on him and XX during the match. I'd certainly like to believe that they lost fair and square, since faking a loss seems disrespectful to their opponents.

Back to some game observations, it seems to this viewer's eye from the video reply that the Japanese wonderkids hit the ball flatter and harder rather that hitting massive spin shots. High risk and high reward, very few rallies. If this is true, is it due to the new ball or just exceptional talent and training?

happy to see there are people who UNLIKE pingfun comment after ACTUALLY seeing the match.
the Japanese were very agressive trying to take the ball very early. It was risky but they had no choice, the Chinese had more power overall, especially against Harimoto.

Kizukuri was exceptional. He managed to kill the sneaky trickshots from XU Xin, he even did a few trickshots himself. He could counter-loop FZD or XX drives close to the table like its nothing, and he hit many winners right on corners or near the edges, including that controversial drive which hit the edge at the end of the match. The referees didn't see it (me neither) but Kizukuri claimed for the point. XU Xin pretended having seen nothing but FAN Zhendong was very fair play and awarded the point to the Japanese.

This shows again that FZD is a player with huge class, I was really sorry for his loss to MA Long but MA Long is a great player as well. I hope FZD will become World champ or Olympic champ one day. XU Xin just showed again he's a scumbag.

A doubles match in best of 5 goes very quickly and is decided with a few important crucial points. The Chinese had a 2-0 lead and 3 match points but they lost. It cannot go all the time their way. In 2015 in WTTC, they beat in semis Oshima Morizono after saving matchpoint...

Why be a sore loser for the players you root ? they are not complaining.... FZD is a champ.

I may want to rephrase my words carefully as everyone is emotional now.

The Chinese were not in the mood to play so they lost. They gave the match away in-intentionally.

sad but true

nope, they were not 100% focused because it was only an ITTF open and they didn't expect to lose against lower ranked players after leading 2-0 easily

thats it, end of story. Hasn't it ever happened to you ?

They are not looking for excuses. Kizukuri played an excellent match

why don't watch the game first instead of babbling nonsense ?

in their own words

“We were leading at the start, but weren’t meticulous enough in the third game, we also gave them more room in the crucial points in the fourth and fifth games I think we let our guard down after winning the first two games; it got harder to focus towards the end of the match. We did not have good luck, too many unforced errors. Towards the later part of the match, the threat from Kizukuri was greater and we missed match points. The last part was just out of our control.” Fan Zhendong
“Both of them fought aggressively, no matter whether they were leading or trailing. It was easier in the first two games. We are not familiar with Kizukuri and we are not used to his play and placement. We were too reserved in the fourth and fifth games.” Xu Xin

ping_fun , I think in this argument you are being naive , I saw the match and the japanese kids did a wonderful job of adapting and finally totally deserved their win . In table tennis the point is , you lose you lose , thats it , there is no point in finding excuses , we will see the next time who wins , thats it . I was super happy for those kids and the the way Harimoto hugged his partner , it was like watching the North Korean mixed doubles win celebration in the world championship a few years back ! It was very exciting and they totally deserved it !

Exactly, Chinese have to learn how to lose. For many years they forgot how to do it. But times are changing. Get used to it !
Harimoto, Kizukuri, Hirano, or Hayata, those will be the names causing pain to the CNT in the years to come...

not Ishikawa or Mizutani any more... they already tried their best

I understand what you told is a theory but in this atmosphere of gossip and rumors , every theory is treated as such and people will latch on to it as you have insider information or you are claiming this is what happened .... I honestly saw the entire match and it was a very good performance by those kids . I normally support the older players especially if they are underdogs , in this case the kids were the underdogs and they came back from 0-2 down and scripted a fairy-tale comeback ... lets not take anything away from their achievement ... it always helps to be a good sport when sport is involved :)

Now who wins or who loses, everything is possible. When was the last time such thing happened in table tennis?
