Xu Xin struggling against Lin Gaoyuan as usual. Looked resigned since going 0-2.

I am not sure he was playing to win he looked like he was playing to practice. But maybe you are right, he might have given up in spirit after the first two games. Haven't seen XX so reluctant to pivot in my life.

Looks like FZD time at top was too short. Wang Chuqin seems to have what FZD never had - Consistency and Tactical play. As a matter of fact , none of the FZD's wins in this event were dominant. Not sure how he lost his mojo. May be Wang Hao's coaching is not working out !!

I know it's a controversial topic, but it seems to me Fan did not transition well to the abs balls. 2-3 years ago he was on the rise and was easily rivaling Ma Long. His game (except maybe of Xu Xin's) is mostly spin oriented - special king of bh snapping/accelerating, perfectly suited for celluloid, in my opinion does not translate well yet, to the abs'es ... the Chinese new wave does it very well.

FZD is not playing well for some time already. His consistency is very poor, after some great ball when you think nobody can beat him, he loose simple points.
His BH is very good and I do not know why he tends to play forehand from the middle of his body. Wang saw that and most points he won wos played to the body of FZD and when he was trying to play FH he was always little bit late so the ball did not have enough power and he started chasing.
IMO currently LGY is the best in china squad, then probably LJK, FZD, XX. What is good they are all beatable, so the rest of the world can fight them.

As Gionis said in a recent greek interview, now with the 40+ balls , technique is not needed as much as before, and speed -reflexes come first and then technique (Gionis said that, I don't know if I agree or disagree), and that's why there are many athletes at young age who are dominating the world leagues.

In China though, there are too many athletes who can play at pro level in young ages. I believe that in some years, CNT will have a complete different "roster" with young athletes and unbelievable speed.

I think this is the matter of ball placement. BH flick usualy is very effective and all top player use it as often as possible. But FZD shots were too predictable so WCQ easily returned them.

"The official outcome is that Zhou Yu is suspended from Thursday 17th January to Wednesday 17th April; Ma Jungfeng from Thursday 17th January until Sunday 17th February."

So it's going to end 4 days before WTTC : ) Next Time Zhou rips his rubber off, he'll think twice I believe ...

"[...]
Regulation 3.4.2.4 states: A racket shall not be replaced during an individual match unless it is accidentally damaged so badly that it cannot be used; if this happens the damaged racket shall be replaced immediately by another which the player has brought with him or her to the playing area or one which is handed to him or her in the playing area."

It does not say it the racket should be exactly the same, does it?

Zhou Yu updated his Weibo w/ an apology:
"I was in the men's singles match of the HTable Hungarian Open on January 17, 2019. I wanted to apply for a new racket due to rubber damage. However, due to the lack of understanding of the rules of the ITTF competition, I did not communicate with the referee. The tampering of the racket resulted in the cancellation of the qualification of the game. My misconduct violated the rules of the competition and adversely affected the international image of Chinese athletes. I deeply reflected on this matter and expressed the adverse effects on the matter. Apologize, to ensure that lessons are learned in future competitions, to take precautions, to study in depth and strictly abide by the rules of the competition to avoid such incidents."
