Hey guys! So I took on the former world number 1 table tennis player Dimitrij Ovtcharov in a match where he is using a pre-made bat and I'm using his bat setup (Ovcharov ALC with 09c on the forehand and Dignics 05 on the backhand)!

Who will win? Find out in the video below 🏓

The age old question, that is, does the equipment makes the player or otherwise has been satisfactory answered in this video. Rejoice! Rejoice, devout followers of TT. Dan our Messiah has spoken!

Don't think the "equipment matters?" Q has been answered here TBH.

Ceteris paribus would prescribe the same level of acquaintance with the material in a comparative test. So either let Dima train a while (say, a couple of thousands of hours) with the premade, or compare a high end blade entirely unfamiliar with a premade entirely unfamiliar.

(Even then, the high end blade would prolly still be *closer* to Dima's regular, so no fair comparison in a meaningful sense.)

Dima missed several similar FH hits in the first 2/3rd of the set because of the premade lacking some punch, which he wouldn't have missed as much had he given himself 10-15 more minutes of warm up. He could have also not gone for some of these higher risk shots and just controlled the serve-receive.

I love his casual yet humble trash talking and laughing!

I'm surprised Dima struggled so much. Dan is a great player and has improved a lot but dima wasn't really able to play his normal game at all and mostly pushing and flat smashing.

What kind of pre-made racket is that? Is that essentially a super slick rubber almost like an anti that can't spin the ball at all?

Or was he just not used to it and would have played more like normal given 3-4 hours of practice with that bat?

It is the Butterfly specialist, so probably this one:

Its £40 on the UK Butterfly dealers website - but it says the catalogue price is £119.99 what!!!!!!!! (though i really dont know where Teesport gets there catalogue prices for - i think they make them up!)

"The Butterfly Specialist racket opens all possibilities of modern offensive table tennis to players with sufficient skill and ability. Fine tuning spin and power, precision and placement with the 5 ply blade and comfortable flared handle takes advantage of the ITTF approved Lagnus 2mm rubbers in red and black. The Specialist supports all of these skills and more."

Yeah he was just smashing the ball - shows that equipment does count to me rather than not.

I don't think Dima struggled, but he was testing the limits of this racket on purpose when he didn't have to.

The topsheet actually has somewhat decent grip (for a premade) but when you start hitting into it, there really isn't anything there. Its easily worse than MarkV and Sriver class rubbers and its difficult to do much more than push and flat drive because it can't spin the ball so much
