They're testing ML's racket, interesting. So technically the match is not over yet until we get the test results. I'm assuming he measured the racket before the match so the likelihood of failure is low, but you never know....

"Last championship" Retirement after Olympics?
He didn't clearly say that super clearly in Chinese. Verbatim, he said "I think that as the last match in the WTTC, that I'm able to finish it with a win, that in the world championship I'm perfect".

I think it does sound like that he meant that this was his last WTTC match and he's happy to go out with a win and having won every gold he played in, but technically he could've meant it as the last match in this particular WTTC as opposed to all WTTCs he has and will ever play in.

Watanabe also gave his reasoning on that. Hayata is the trump card, Hirano is the fail-safe in case Harimoto stumbles. It's safe to assume he is letting Harimoto get as much experience as possible ahead of Paris 2024.

As for Hirano struggling, keep in mind she recovered whereas SYS and WYD failed. That's a huge difference. And how many times has Hirano done it now against all odds? She dropped 0 games at XTWC 2023 and remember what you told me?

As of now, Hirano is the only JNT player to have defeated CM and WYD in straight games at ATTC 2017 (second highest continental stage) and WTTC 2024 (second highest international stage), respectively.

Tieba comments on fielding Hirano instead of Hayata at XTWC 2023
On Hirano, I don't doubt she is that ZJK type player. I just remind people that just like ZJK, you never know precisely what you are going to get and pretending you are can get you into trouble. But she has the Olympics now, let us see how it goes. She also needs to improve her seeding, so Japan will put her out there and we will be able to stop giving her a pass for the matches she doesn't win but should.

The Victor Barna Award - FZD
The Diane Scholer Award - SYS

FZD is fine, but SYS?

She and CM each had a 3-1 loss, but one was in the prelims and one was in the finals. You could see it as SYS lost to the worse player, but you could also see it as CM lost the more impactful match.

You don't need to assume. He is not Jishan Liang, he has been tested for life.

He probably wants to give it to Miu Hirano.

While Felix is obviously much younger than Harimoto, given the diagnosis of Harimoto's struggles with Wang by @Metaxa , I would love to hear his diagnosis of Felix's struggles which are just as severe. Is it just age? Let's just say IMHO, that if Harimoto solves the struggles that Felix had (because i think the struggles were similar), Harimoto is just as capable as Felix of beating Wang. And I think both players are capable of solving those struggles over time.
