tickets are quite expensive. but attendance is rather high despite that. they also seem to sell a lot of goods (shirts etc..). and people pay to watch on Amazon TV etc...

i think this is a topic not many forum users have the knowledge or interest of discussing.

I wonder what other league is so/more profitable?

ie, German, French, Russian (before the war)? etc

for over a decade, I have been saying that TT needs to be club model and go away with ITTF or the overloading WTT (no more time for club if you onboard WTT)

I feel that club model = leagues, are the cornerstone to make table tennis tier 1.
The same applies to many team sports where the sport might not have money, but the audience is large and kids are driven to be the next super star

leagues is also where there is huge numbers of players,
so 5 to 8 per team, 10 to 20 teams per division, that is 50 to 160 players.
Then how many divisions you get? and then how many countries.
We are talking 1000s of players if not 10s of thousands that have the opportunity, compared to that of WTT (which isn't making money for 99.99% of the players taking part)

I also think it is easily to be a fan/follow of a club than a country.

Ie. Do you have more ManU or Arsenal fans than England?
same with Real Madrid/Barcelona than Spain.

I think with sports, we have seen that clubs/leagues has more success than countries in term of value and goods sold.

The only problem I see for ITTF is that they would loose a lot of control, and money.

Ito's name is not there, which means she intends to get her spot through WR. Hayata, Hirano and Harimoto get automatically selected because of Paris 2024. The 4th spot goes to the winner of the selection trial. The 5th spot goes to the next highest WR. Kihara and Nagasaki gotta work harder or only 1 of them will get to go.

Had to make the post below during WTT CT Taiyuan 2024 after seeing it. Now it comes in handy. When someone stops in the middle of a training session to "admire" her rival, that means her mindset is messed up and not where it should be, as Miwa has come to understand recently. As long as Ito doesn't get SYS off her mind, she won't recover and more and more players will be able to break through her. Hirano fell into that psychological trap after ATTC 2017 and it cost her the WS for Tokyo 2020. Same for Ito here but she hardly has anyone to help her now.

Was curious what exactly happened. In short, Ito's short serve lost effect roughly after G2 whereas Pavade's long serve turned the tables after G2.

Pavade served short and long, with the long ones SLIGHTLY but OBVIOUSLY more effective.
Pavade held her own at a minimum or had the upper hand past the 3rd/5th and 2nd/4th balls.

Ito served MUCH more short than long the whole game, with the short ones WAY LESS effective.
Pavade served more short than long, with both roughly equally effective.
Ito started missing more on loose balls.

I think back in 2019, many Tieba users and some 5ch users seriously thought Harimoto, Niwa and Matsushima would complete the lineup for Paris 2024. Uda, Togami and Shinozuka were nobodies at that point, so those folks have had high expectations for Matsushima for several years now.

If Harimoto and F. Lebrun had not achieved so much in senior events at 14/15 and 15/16, respectively (the latter is only 7 months older than Matsushima), then Matsushima would have been given the child prodigy treatment like LYJ back in 2017/2018. But as of now, Matsushima being a good player won't cut it. With the revamped selection system now in place, he must become better than at least Uda, Togami, Shinozuka, Tanaka, and R. Yoshiyama to stand a chance for LA 2028, when he will be 21. If he doesn't by then, who knows how he will turn out for Brisbane 2032, when he will be 25. I mean look at Ito, who won't turn 23 until this October, already looks like a washed-up veteran.

In terms of stats, Hirano, Kihara and Harimoto is actually the best but risky lineup if Japan wants to beat China, with the latter two having no prior experience, whereas Hirano was the reserve at Rio 2016 and Hayata at Tokyo 2020. Kihara/Harimoto for the doubles, Hirano for the first singles, and Harimoto for the second singles. This lineup can't afford to have Hirano go offline and is potentially vulnerable against South Korea so requires the draw to work in their favor.

In reality, Hayata, Hirano and Kihara/Harimoto (3rd member/reserve) is likely what JTTA has in mind. Having Hayata and Hirano would reduce the doubles strength and flexibility but would be more assuring before the final. Unless Harimoto overtakes Kihara in standings, JTTA may be forced to play by the book and pick the latter, at which point winning gold is pretty much out of the question. At the end of the day, Hirano, Kihara and Harimoto are affiliated with Kinoshita Group, so they are the biggest winner regardless.

Hirano's handling of serve to her short FH has really improved a lot and become her strength. In terms of short FH receive, Kihara is the other core JNT player that excels at it.
Hirano's spin reading ability has always been her trait (even better than Ito who has the help of pips) and it shows here (once again after WTT CT Zagreb 2023). If only Hayata is half as good...
Hayata served more long in response to untangle the snare but to no avail.
Handcuffed in the short game, Hayata turned to serving almost exclusively long to Hirano's FH and BH to force the point into rallies right away.
