Does Miwa need to retire?

She had her chance, Now it's time to give place for the younger generation...

Jokes aside, Hashimoto played really well and deserved the win.

From what I have seen in the last 1.5 sets, Miwa tried to out-push and out-smash her but she returned well and took her attacking chances.

The Korean men conspired to lose all their matches on the same round except Lim Junghoon, who almost did but had an opponent more willing to lose. I hope these are symptoms of overtraining that can be reigned in in time for the Olympics.

With Hashimoto, of course. Even SYS fears Hashimoto.
Then they would replace Kihara with Sato for a doubles defence and then hope to face no opponents with defensive specialists. Korea would accept the challenge.

They used to be more frequent on ITTF. The problem is that Japan is so deep and if you are outside the first team, you need special funding. Maybe their club found it or something.
with new WTT structures that is really only coming into place this year or next year, the "2nd tiers" would see, or should see, more playing time.
since, SC and Contenders are way so much more (in qty) than the mandatory ones.
There is basically enough tournaments for every one.

funding in Japan, isn't a problem.
So many non JNT members get fundings to take part in non ITTF/WTT tournaments around the world.
even get funding to go places to train
I am really eager to learn more about how or why there is so much funding.... it is unbelievable some times.

The DTTB confirmed that Han Ying's other achilles tendon tore... they are trying to get her back as quickly as possible to Germany and get surgery.
shame...
she is out of olympics....

KOR is no longer the team from 2004 and 2008. They don't produce choppers like they used to and hence don't play choppers as well now. Remember KOR lost to GER at Tokyo 2020 and SYB, their best hope, was the culprit. Like I touched on last month, JPN is now better than CHN (and likely the best) at playing defenders (and combination players in general), which is another reason why Hirano's subsequent loss to Pavade was insignificant in comparison. Bergstrom, SHW and HY are the pot stirrers. But without SHW and HY, KOR and GER will be a lot weaker at Paris 2024, a lame duck for the latter especially.

I think Choi Hyojoo was the real culprit for that match. Lost 2 points and failed to play her role as the 'surprise ace'.

Tieba users have long put the blame on Ito for losing to Solja at Rio 2016, instead of Fukuhara when both of them lost 2 matches (singles and doubles).

Minnie has been praised as the heroine for beating HY and SXN at Tokyo 2020. If she lost either, chances were LHC was going to lose the 5th.

The common denominator here is the youngest player on the team, the make-or-break player per se. Like for TWC 2019, Hirano had to step up and beat JJH in the 3rd, as she couldn't rely on Ishikawa to finish the job in the 5th.

Likewise, KOR's loss was pretty much sealed when SYB failed to step up and beat HY in the 4th, hence "their best hope" in my previous post.

Just speculating here, but I'm thinking the funding might be coming from their T-League teams (or at least a good part of it). It seems to be paying off for Miki House/NP Mallets because Odo, Sato, Yokoi, and Hashimoto are all doing well in both singles and doubles. Come April '25 the players will be allowed to wear their own uniforms and possibly have their team logo on their shirts as advertisement for Nippon Paint. Again, just pure speculation.

Nah by that logic Korea sent CHJ to lose two points which makes no sense. SXN is way more beatable than Han Ying.

of the ones that I know that are non JNT and don't play on the official international circuit, the corporate team sponsored them indeed.

Japan's TT commericial value is another beast.
