The expedite rule looks so frustrating to play with
Fully agree. Super annoying to have someone count out returns.

Nonetheless, super happy for Honoka Hashimoto. It's a huge mental hurdle for her to beat Sato. She has a decent chance at winning this tournament.

Nah by that logic Korea sent CHJ to lose two points which makes no sense. SXN is way more beatable than Han Ying.
CHJ as the trump card had already lost its surprise effect when it failed to take out JPN at TWC 2019. On the flip side, that failure actually revealed KOR was severely limited in lineup flexibility - SYB was stuck in doubles with either JJH or CHJ, both lefties. Keep in mind JJH and SYB were the singles players like DHK and Minnie, but because of handedness, KOR couldn't pull off what HKG did. CHJ was not supposed to take on 2 singles matches, especially after that.

Like for WTTC 2018, LHC was not supposed to take on 2 singles matches as she lost in 3 of 4 team matches in which she was playing 2 singles. For TWC 2019, LHC never played 2 singles. Minnie took on that role and actually played rather well and freed DHK, paving the way to bronze for Tokyo 2020.

KOR is no longer the team from 2004 and 2008. They don't produce choppers like they used to and hence don't play choppers as well now. Remember KOR lost to GER at Tokyo 2020 and SYB, their best hope, was the culprit. Like I touched on last month, JPN is now better than CHN (and likely the best) at playing defenders (and combination players in general), which is another reason why Hirano's subsequent loss to Pavade was insignificant in comparison. Bergstrom, SHW and HY are the pot stirrers. But without SHW and HY, KOR and GER will be a lot weaker at Paris 2024, a lame duck for the latter especially.

I agree completely, people just use their common sense to look at the matchups and the scores, Ito was closer to beating Solja and Choi really should have done better *at least* against SXN.

It's weird, the chopper they have juat beat Chen Xingting but she isn't enough for them to have good practice?
Similar to JNT, there is severe "fragmentation" within KNT. They don't train together, especially SYB. HKG used to suffer from that until Li Ching took the helm in 2012 and he wrote an article on it (inaccessible now). I think JJH has touched on the poor relations among team members in her live before.

Before wasting any of my time, here are the comments from SYB and coach 추교성 on 2-3 GER at Tokyo 2020.

(Don’t be sad, Korea’s table tennis prodigy… These Olympics are just the beginning)
https://english.hani.co.kr/arti/sports/sportstemp/1006284.html
Shin Yu-bin told domestic reporters after the game, “I should have won the team 4 singles match, but I couldn’t. “I’m sorry that I couldn’t finish the game that her older sisters caught,” she said. She also said that she had “difficult matches with difficult players. “I will use the Tokyo Olympics as an experience to train so that I can perform better in the future,” he emphasized.

Coach Chu Kyo-seong thought about the lineup all night long to secure a bridgehead for the semifinals and a sure win against Germany. It is an order that can be read as the coach's intention to win the 1st doubles, take one of the 2nd and 3rd singles, and decide the match by featuring Shin Yu-bin, who is strong in defense, in the 4th singles. To achieve this, they must first capture the first doubles, and 'Chinese naturalized aces' Choi Hyo-joo and Jeon Ji-hee must hold out well against the German aces. In this case, it is highly likely that Shin Yu-bin, the ‘youngest member of the team’, will have the opportunity to decide whether to advance to the semifinals. Attention is focused on what kind of match Shin Yu-bin, a 17-year-old table tennis prodigy and the future of Korean women's table tennis, will have against the 38-year-old German top ranker, who she is facing for the first time in her life at the Olympics, where she is competing. Shin Yu-bin has been preparing for the defensive battle through intense training with the women's national team coach Kim Kyung-ah, a former Beijing Olympic bronze medalist and world-class coach, who is also the coach of her team, Korean Air.

Coach Chu Kyo-seong of the women's national team took a risky move by sending the combination of Shin Yu-bin and Jeon Ji-hee to the first doubles match instead of the usual Shin Yu-bin and Choi Hyo-joo.

Her plan was to overpower Jeon Ji-hee, who was most advanced in skill and experience, by winning the first doubles match, even if she had to take the loss of only one singles match.

That was Li Ching's plan against GER as well, winning the doubles, the 3rd by DHK and either the 2nd or the 4th by Minnie. But when they lost the doubles, the burden was on Minnie to take 2 matches.

And here is Yoo Namkyu's comment on CHJ and SYB as the "surprise soldiers" at TWC 2019, with SYB being the more prominent one.

Is there a specific word for getting 11 points in a row in a game when the score isn't 11-0?

Not a bagel for sure at 11-3. But winning all 11 in a row should have its own catchphrase or word.

Superstar defender, Honoka Hashimoto, takes down JJH in 5 games. JJH was well prepared for Honoka's transition to BH smash, but she threw all her punches early and didn't have enough in the tank to close it out. Great match to watch if you haven't already seen it. It's so satisfying for the fans to get the opportunity to watch Honoka's defensive brilliance.

It is good they felt that way. Most of us know that Han Ying is almost unbeatable the first time you play her so good luck to Shin with that plan and putting it all on the shoulders of a 17 year old at the Olympics.

Japanese WD are really strong: We have the Miyuu(s) and now the two choppers of Honoka and Sato.
The two choppers used to do that on the ITTF tour before they stopped travelling. It is old wine in New flasks.
