I'd prefer to get rid of NER altogether, but maybe as a compromise, make NER applicable only to the Main Draw. Not to pick on anyone but for purposes of example, Neda Shahsavari, only played 2 WTT events (plus Olympics, WTTC, and ATTC) but is near the end of the Qualifiers.

Edit: So then if NER prevents Odo and Hashimoto from going into the Main Draw, then put them in qualifiers.
be careful what you wish for
CNT can easily have over a dozen players in the main draw
and I think that will cause a lot more headache, haha

How is WTT price money distributed? Here is the problem: almost half of the players entered only plays one match before they leave. For these players, would the price money they get from just one match cover their trip expense(flight, room/board, etc..) assuming quite some of them are not lucky enough to have sponsorship?

For big events like Smash I would think most players from qualification round will lose money. I would also think these players probably get some financial assistance from their TT federation and/or sponsorship. For Japanese players, I think JTTF selects the players for each event and pays the expense. Not sure if JTTF gets a cut from players' price money. China does the similar thing.

What about most European players?

From financial stand point, for event like Smash, at which round (R64, R32, R16, etc) a player can make even?
Provided nothing has changed, $1300 is the minimum prize for 1st qualification round/QR64 of singles and should cover the expense for most players around the world.

WTT has stopped listing the prize money breakdown in the 2024 handbook (likely the same moving forward) and only the prize money for main draw are displayed on the official event page, so we will have to settle with the 2023 handbook. The distribution has been changed slightly for 2024 but should be close enough.

JTTA funds only the NT/JNT (Junior)/HNT (Hopes) players (5 to 6 for NT players most of the time), and select coaches and support staff. Tough luck for the NT/JNT/HNT reserve players. The coverage is pretty extensive, and AFAIK, JTTA doesn't get a cut. See below for more.

7 million USD to host an event. Potential host countries must have evaluated that they aren't goint to get 7 million USD in benefits. It's been 5 years since WTT started, and there still isn't a full 4 Grand Smashes per year that it promised.
4 years. WTT commenced in 2021 and the first GS didn't come until 2022. US Smash has been in the talks and will probably come in 2025 now.

Thanks for the answer. You are a resourceful guy. I guess the main reason most pros got into the sport had to come from the love of it, rather than the pursue of the money.

Very tricky draw, it feels like it's open for all, and I wouldn't be surprised if big head is eliminated early, there are tricky players on his side of the draw. This looks like one of those draws where there'd be at least one non CNT player in the MS final.

Thank you. I thought it might be a controversial tier list (prolly is), but glad that u also see the vision in WRB. He has so much potential to be a LJK role type player.

I used to back HYZ a lot, but he’s failing to live up to expectations. Badly too, after that loss against Walther
Walther is not a bad player, these occasions happen.
He's still in his teens so I'm not too worried. He's never really outshined his mates in internal trials, so I don't fancy him having a really high ceiling, if he transforms into a reliable doubles/3rd singles player, I think that's good enough. He'll get a fair share of accolades that way too.

He’s 19 now so he’s starting to run out of time to shine. He still hasn’t developed much consistency (which goes for almost all the players below LGY) and his style of play should get him places considering he literally plays so similar to WCQ. I just think this generation of young players are failing to develop like before, and it’ll be just LSD with no one else with him (I mean literally the best young players below 20 in CNT rn is WRB, HYZ and SY, the latter is a defender)

Better FH than all CNT players? Better BH than Dima and Franziska? Common.
Best FH of all time is no question Ma Long. Should be common sense really

BH is a different story. Some say Kreanga, some say Ovtcharov, some say Franziska, some say Fan Zhendong, and now even Lin Shidong is worth a shout. I personally think FZD is best BH of all time but I think LSD will overtake him eventually

many pros make a living from table tennis
i am sure the top 30 or maybe top 50, are not there only because of the love of it
they are there because table tennis feeds the family.

in fact, many of them make a lot of money from being a table tennis pro.
maybe there don't have other talent to pursue more money, but many times the money the pros make is more than the average forum member.

So in another news....
There is now another incident involving Chinese fans and "out in numbers".
check it out for yourself on WTT's China Smash instagram account.

apparently WCQ fans are upset and anti WCQ fans are stiring the pot.
end of the day, the fans has taken over the comment section

From what I gather, anti WCQ is calling him no 32 now, for his exit in the Round of 32 in Paris. Meaning, he is only a 32 rank/best player :p
and WCQ fans are not happy about that.

ML FH not obviously better than Da Li - Big Power, Wang Liqin

Better FH then all CNT players? Better BH then Dima and Franziska? Common.
Why so serious? These titles are just fun. Do any of the CNT players hit a more powerful max forehand than Quadri and do they have the same look/effect? Dima and Franziska have great backhands, but Olah's backhand just looks special in its own way, and relative to his playing level, it is a superpower, one of the reasons why he got that name was how his backhand shocked Waldner when he beat the great Swede.
