Aside the Chinese Taipei’s coach’s incompetence this match could’ve gone south for the CNT, tho I believe LSD would’ve delivered.

Having a 19 year old as your most stable player speaks volumes of the current men’s CNT. They still need FZD and/or Ma Long to keep themselves safe. Forcing Ma Long to retire at 36 is one thing but FZD, the current Olympics champion in his twenties? Hopefully, they’re only doing this so the youngsters can get some exposure at major tournaments.

I doubt anyone forced FZD to retire, in fact, his break during this period of the year gives a slightly different perspective to ML's similar break after the 2021 Olympics, with the caveat that ML's break coincided with a WTTC.

If FZD decides to play again, it will be a rejuvenated FZD, the guy has gone through a lot the last 5 years.

Another example from Hirano vs CIC at World Cup 2016. At 10:6 of G4, Hirano served a half-long first and then a long serve. Both failed to close out the match. Nakazawa/Wang Rui called a TO immediately.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GDzIDKTDoms

Also 3 examples from Hirano (about the only times) that serving long kept working throughout.

https://youtu.be/w3tCR84n03Y?t=2209

p.s.
At 10:9 of G2, Hirano actually tried a long serve that worked at other times but failed on that specific instance.

MT 5-6th
JPN vs HKG
M1 Harimoto 1-3 Baldwin
M4 Harimoto 1-3 Yiu Kwan To
By the way, this officially kills the Harimoto is alone meme. Whether you believe the matches should have been that close or not, Togami came through in flying colors against motivated and underrated opponents.

I sure hope so. But after Tokyo Olympics there were some serious rumours of Ma Long’s retirement. Some people even say he was called back because of the void he would leave in the CNT.
There were lots of rumors after Tokyo, even including that the CNT kept XX and ML from coming to the USA. In the end, you just have to look at the big picture as more facts come in.

Perhaps Harimoto did it on purpose to stimulate Togami and Shinozuka, particularly the former.

WTTC 2025
Yoshimura/Odo qualified by reaching QF.
Matsushima/Harimoto qualified by finishing 9-12.

https://www.ittf.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/2024_ATTC_PlayingSystem.pdf
2.3 The ITTF-ATTU 27th Asian Table Tennis Championships 2024 is a
qualification event to the ITTF WTTC 2025.

Championships, all 16 winners of the Round of 32 shall qualify for the 2025
WTTC. The 16 losers of the Round of 32 shall play one round of knockout
matches, with the 8 winners also qualifying for the 2025 WTTC. The 8
losers of these matches shall play a progressive knockout to determine
positions 25 to 32. The number of players up to the available quota shall
qualify for the 2025 WTTC, with the remaining players as reserves in
finishing order.
b. Doubles/Mixed Doubles
With the single knockout system to determine the winners of the Asian
Championships, all 8 winners of the Round of 16 shall qualify for the 2025
WTTC. The 8 losers of the Round of 16 shall play one round of knockout
matches, with the 4 winners also qualifying for the 2025 WTTC. The 4

its tough for him... he had 3 match points in G4 at 10-7 and was playing superbly at the time

His losses to FZD in Tokyo OG SF and to Dima in the Bronze Medal match are painful memories
LYJ tended to be too agg and play risky when ahead. Almost everyone knows he was going to serve long at match points. Why playing risking when you are ahead? Why not just served short to WCQ's forehand and prepared for a third ball attack?

Both HT and LYJ need to learn to play point by point regardless of game/match situation to really ending a match against CNT member

It's one thing if he had been winning points with such serves all through the match, but missing the serve completely was a pure indication of nervousness and not acknowledging that with a timeout is a sign that both him and his coach didn't really believe in their ability to win.
Yes, that's all on nerve. At 10:8, he served long trying to surprise WCQ to get an easy point considering WCQ's struggling (actually, Wang at that moment just settled down, but Lin didn't sense that) that was not a bad option. However, his serve flew out of the table due to his tense nerve. Next point, of course, he would serve short, just his serve was not short enough also due to the nerve that invited Wang to spin the ball which Lin was not ready as he didn't anticipate a topspin return.

After choking the G4, Lin collapsed in G5 and Wang played like pre-Paris Wang.

Lin has all the skills to compete against the best, but mental strength still needs a lot of work.

No way XX would come to USA even Adam begged him. Europe might be a possibility as XX is the number one player European wants to lure as his playing style will attract a huge audience there.

KCJ played really bad against WCQ. He kept playing to W's backhand. Everyone knows that you need to move WCQ and play more to his wide forehand. My thinking is that these guys did not prepare well before the match, or did not stick to their game plan.

Considering how stacked the schedule is plus prior commitments I doubt the top countries prepared much or at all. They are thrown into cold water. That being said it shows how well players can adapt on the spot, though.

North Korean women will fight to prove that India's bronze medal is rightfully theirs today.

Cha Su Yong v. Ayhika Mukherjee 4pm Table 7 (winner faces Ito in R.32)
Kim Kim Yong v. Sutirtha Mukherjee 5pm Table 8

With SYS out of WS, Suh Hyo Won, Odo, Ito, and Cha Su Yong have a chance at reaching semifinals.

Winner of that quarter will potentially face Miwa/CXT/Pak Su Gyong, with Batra and Kim Na Yeong potentially creating upsets.

WYD has to fend off Kim Kum Yong (left-handed LP) and Hirano to defend her quarter.

Hayata and Shin have the easiest quarter with Shi Xunyao and Kuai Man.

Things really open up with SYS out of the picture.

Even without SYS, Ito still has the most difficult R16 and even 32 (if Cha wins Ayikha)
