I think G09C only suits the "put ball on a table" style.
Agree. But if the incoming ball is fast enough, you may borrow the power to return it with a quality shot.

And the rubber isn't that durable tbh. For me, after several months of trainings, the top sheet started to wear off and lose some grip.
Agree more. I noticed my top sheet started losing the tackiness as well in less than 2 months.

I think G09C only suits the "put ball on a table" style. Pretty good at that but for $50 it's incredible how herbivorous and tame the rubber is.
I guess, the only way to win with G09C is by putting a ball on a table and hoping the opponent misses at some point.

And the rubber isn't that durable tbh. For me, after several months of trainings, the top sheet started to wear off and lose some grip. This hasn't happened to me with T05 or H3/Jupiter.
I don't know who you play with but for sure he's not an amateur if you can't put the ball past him with a g09c. I have never played a game where I hope for my opponents to miss, I always look a way to end a point and blasting the ball with g09c is good enough. If you can't put the ball past your opponent with g09c, how are you getting a point with an unboosted h3 or b2?

Maybe you guys play like the pros where you try to bomb it 3 meters from the back? That could be possible but even then, I have never had problem with it. Maybe you should try to slap the ball harder, lol. Wait, you are using J3 which is even slower than g09c. Do you boost it?
Agree. Learning, and practising the techniques in the games are easier. May not gives highest quality shot but in an amatuer match you may still win many points with this rubber.
With our horrible technique it's impossible to reach the highest ball quality. Placement and ease of use are much better than "highest" quality of spin, speed, ball.
As H3 users like to say just hit harder 😁. Tackiness isn't a big factor even with a new sheet.
Yes, slap the ball hard. Heck, I'd say we should win the Powerslap competition considering just how often we slap the ball.

We are surely not pros, and it's hard to measure given we're in different countries, but it's around 3rd-4th national league level. I don't think I am a good player, but it's noticeable to me how easily opponents return attacks from G09C. And it's not necessarily about the speed, the overall toxicity of trajectory and spin is just not problematic for the opponents.

Of course, I regularly boost J3/H3N with at least 2 layers, I would not recommend anyone playing these rubbers without a booster. And if I switch to B2 Gold, I would also boost it, no doubt.

Maybe G09C is great near the table, but as a 6.2 player, I always tend to step away from the table, where G09C loses its power.

Is regular Glayzer pretty much Rozena with a grippier top sheet? Also, Glayzer and G09c do not share the same top sheet right since G09c is tackier right?

Has anyone played both on BH and can compare?

I'm the original poster,

Played them both on fh and bh. Glayzer is hard and doesn't really have the dignics feel, grip is much lower and it doesn't really have a special feel like most BTY rubbers, it is like a Rozena without the amazing feel and feedback. It feels like classic hard-no tension Japanese rubber. If you like that then you'll be fine with Glayzer. It's pretty close to these very hard early chinese tensor clones that didn't play well, had weird feel and well... Felt kinda off.

09c is a much better buy for both fh and bh, but you either need to boost them to get some feel out of them, or like a hard and grippy, control oriented rubber. 09c has tons more grip and does give you some nice possitive feedback when you play, but it doens't have much speed. I think you'll be better off with some Chinese hybrid, Jupiter 3 comes to mind.

If I went back and wanted Glayzer rubbers, I'd get 09c for both fh and bh. With booster they could be amazing, but if you wanna buy them, you must want BTY rubbers, because they're not worth the money they're asking. For example I bought a couple of days ago Friendship Battle 2 Provincial Gold for 13 euros. Battle 2 Gold a massive improvent over the Glayzer&09c, it's faster and more dynamic, massively more spinny too. Do some research before you go buy them, you may find something you will enjoy more and also plays better!

This is probably one of your best responses on here and exactly what I wanted to know LOL. Thanks!

The only thing I don’t like about most Chinese rubbers is their QC & inconsistency, but I will def look into B2G.

Not at all! Each of of them are from different world.

I am. For advance beginners and intermediate players, Rozena is much easier to play on the BH than G09C. You need to have some good techniques to unleash G09C's potential. The hard sponge is difficult to penetrate, and the ball drops. The best you can try is to brush the ball to get more spin. Even if you could, the ball lacks speed and quality.

On the other hand, activating the spring sponge is easier with Rozena. The softer cake sponge is easier to penetrate. The ball has good speed and spin.

Note that Rozena isn't a rubber for beginners. Slower rubbers like Flextra or Sriver are more suitable.

Yeah... I had a bad couple of months during the time of that post, covid damaged my respiratory and was in constant stress for months on end. I wasn't thinking straight during that period.

Other than that, Battle 2 gold is part of their provincial line, it's much more consistant than the cheaper general versions. Jupiter 3 Asia is also a great buy, I remember testing out Jupiter 2 back in the day and loving it, it was a nice hybrid, fast and consistent. They say Jupiter 3 is just an upgraded version.

Battle 2 gold is more of a classic Chinese rubber with a Japanese style sponge. So tacky, clicky and very active. I grew up playing Dawei 2008xp and 388A speed, so this brought back some memories... Will probably stick with it for a while.

I agree that Flextra and Sriver were good for beginners... In the 80's...

These rubbers aren't only outdated, expensive and hard to find, they're made for a different game. They lack grip, feedback, the sponge is soft and mushy, the topsheet is synthetic rubber, and that's beyond bad, they don't react well with the plastic ball and will make people develop bad habits because they don't react properly with the ball. Glayzer 09c is a million times better, and Rozena is the ideal. They're at least it's built for the modern game.

Rozena has good speed and ample control, it doesn't have high responsiveness like Tenergy, 1.9 is good beginners and 2.1 is great for developing players. Both Glayzers are also perfect starter rubbers since they have less speed and a bit more grip. The problem is that they're expensive. Nothing else.

Get with the times.

Why don't recommend T05 & T64 for beginners?

Tenergy is double the speed, tension and double the responsiveness. I play tenergy 05 for half a decade and also played rozena for a year. They are nothing alike.
I doubt. Here's why Butterfly Rubber Performance Index

According to Butterfly, T05 and Rozena use the same Spring Sponge with different hardness. Both topsheets are High-Tensioned with different development codes (the pimples structure, I think).

 NameRozenaTenergy 05
 TypeHigh Tension pimples-inHigh Tension pimples-in
TechnologyHigh Tension, Spring SpongeHigh Tension, Spring Sponge
 Speed8383
 Spin7076
 Arc7379
 Hardness3536

IMO, this is not a rubber for beginners. Rozena is as fast as T05. The topsheet structures might have been modified, making it more forgiving (and slower, perhaps Edit: because the softer sponge).

The TTD team review might confirm this.

IMO, Rozena is a great rubber. The only thing I hate about this rubber is that the topsheet is too fragile.

PS: @Dan also said that Rozena isn't a beginner's rubber and still requires reasonable technique and playing ability.

Butterfly says what whatever butterfly wants so they can sell. The moment you stop taking what companies say with a grain of salt, you loose the ball. Consumerism 101.

Rozena is much slower than tenergy and you would know if you had ever played with it. Tenergy is a lot more sensitive and hard to use, rozena holds your hand and helps you learn. They're nothing alike, just like glayzer and dignics are nothing alike.

And no disrespect, but @Dan isn't some holy god of the sport, he's still just a guy who loves table tennis, just like the rest of us. And that's the good thing about it. You get reviews and thoughts from a guy like us.

Japanese pros say rozena is perfect for learners, Butterfly japan has tons of videos discussing that exact thing. The science behind the rubber and pros and amateurs giving their thoughts of it. And having played with it, I agree with them.
