I recorded myself PT 2

which brings me to this point: You want fellow forumers to comment on your stroke but you show a video of you goofing around. How do you expect an on-the-point feedback. Your input is incorrect. Output, hence is likewise.

And the million dollar question is; will the outcome be any different if OP, using the original first video and he post in the Video Safe Thread instead? Truly a million dollar question.
Damn, good point

In that thread, if someone posts something that is not constructive (helpful to the person who posts the video) or makes crackpot jokes, the comments will be removed and the person will given a warning about what they posted. So, yes. It will be different.

Think about all the goofy videos you posted there where you only got constructive feedback.

It would be worth remembering that not too long ago you were no better than PHSandro. I wonder how good PHSandro would be if he had as much time on the table with a coach.

Yep, that seals the deal.

2 hours a week is all I have with a coach, then I practice the strokes at home.

I maintain that should OP had posted the second vid first instead of the first; this thread would have a very different flavour.
I am really confused why many here are getting so worked up over the first video. OP was not getting the best practice in there but he also clearly had a practice partner who cannot place the ball well for him so sure he was mixing in all types of different shots. I don't see what everyone is seeing that apparently justifies calling him completely unserious and how posting that video was an insult and waste of people's time to watch it.

I have seen several videos of yourself that could be characterized as unserious because you continue trying to go for ridiculous and impractical smashes despite being repeatedly advised not to. Just take a look in the mirror and also consider that the OP is about a third of your age and has already clarified clearly that he is genuinely trying to learn and improve, despite you not letting go about your perception of his seriousness in one video. One. Video.

Yep. It is interesting how, the higher level players are not really criticizing and the LOWEST level player on the thread is the only one who can't let that stuff go. :)

Something else to understand, when you only get fed nice, easy, high quality balls from a coach, it is possible that you will not develop the ability to adjust to random placement. With a coach, often you are given balls at a predictable placement so you can improve your shot quality.

That has value. However, at some point you have to move on to random placement because in matches, your opponent is not trying to give you easy shots to simply return. A player who is decent enough will be making it hard for you to take the shots you want.

That video with the practice partner who can't control where he is hitting the ball, one positive thing it shows about PHSandro is that he actually is good at adjusting to different balls. If you watch match play from Gozo, you can see that he could actually learn something from PHSandro. Not only does Sandro move better, he adjusts to random placement much better. But giving Gozo his due: if someone messes up and gives him a big fat, slow high ball, he can smash that ball into oblivion. :)

@Gozo Aruna : a question: how is your play against tricky serves these days? How about your skill at reading spin on the ball? When you play LP players these days, how do you fair? The last time I looked at footage of you playing matches, those were all things that you could work on and if you improved those things, your level would jump up. Have you been working on them?

Oh Carl, I am glad you'd ask.
1. For context, the video I shared was me in my 3rd month of coaching and that was taken in early Feb-2022. Today is Mar-2025, so 3 years has lapsed. People evolve. Gozo in 2025 is different from Gozo in 2022.
2. Tricky serves, much better my good sir! I use the K.I.S.S. principle: If serves goes out of table, loop the SH1T out of it. ( Credit goes to @TomLodziak & @Heming Hu YT vid ). If serve is inside table, push it if underspin, flick if otherwise. It is by no means 100% success for me, but it gives me a framework to work on and not leave it to random chance anymore.
3. LPs player I'd still hate em. In my most recent tourney, I lost to a LP / Inverted CPen player ( Ni Xialian playstyle ) and an Inverted / Anti shakehander.
4. But I won a JPen inverted and a doubles game against a pair of inverted players.

p/s: I can do more than HULK-SMASH on my FH now. I can open up underspin ball much more confidently these days. Countering has been added into my playbook these days. Also these days I am working on adding counter-looping ( which in my opinion is the ultimate technique for an offensive player playbook ) although it is still work-in-progress.

A lot can change in a year or even months especially when you are beginning in this sport and if you have an open mind to learning. And a lot doesn't change for people who don't :)

Nice to hear. If you are reading spin on serves and making intelligent choices that is excellent progress.

If you keep thinking of the antispin and LP players as good practice (even if it is in a tournament) and not worry about winning, you will start learning things to do vs them that will make them weaker. The work on playing vs them and trying to read the spin on the ball from the ball itself will really help you jump more levels.

Nice one @PenHoldSandro

So you have a coach! I'm jealous hahaha.

I train with my schoolmates about daily after school, 2-3 hours, 3.30 to 5.30 pm.

We mostly do forehand rallies and try to put power into the strokes to simulate games. Recently tried improving my rpb by backhand rally but it's somehow quite hard. I guess it's the initial learning curve. I fell much more confident with tpb.

I was thinking should I upload a practice video soon. I would appreciate people commenting on my technique on how to improve-so its benefits to all.

Like through watching penholdsandros videos its interesting to see how the practice comes about and how it goes along.

You should get a coach, it will help a ton!

yep, you upload a video, you can get a lotta help especially because you have no coach yourself :)
