Felix's form has definitely taken a downturn over the last 6 months.

The year before that he was almost guaranteed a victory against any non-chinese.

On the eye test, his play style appears to have changed. His power has increased away from the table on both wings and his forehand especially has more power.

But he no longer plays so close to the table with such ferocity. I wonder if he's sacrificing some form in order to develop better in the long term....
Yes, I've heard this from French players. Similar to how Harimoto sacrificed his best form for quite a while to upgrade his forehand. Now at the beginning of the next Olympic cycle is the time to do it.

Dima had every right to a let as well if you actually watched the video. Let's not make this about what the umpire called or did not call. Lin clearly called it, and if he had missed, it would have been a replayed point.
the point was actually complete
there was no let call before that final edge, because everything was so fast.

I think Lin at first didn't see the edge, because of the light
Dima said it touched
the umpires awarded the point to Lin and finished

and then override to replay point

So it is fair to say Lin was robbed by the lighting staff. Without that light, the point won't be replayed and if the luck remained the same, the same edge would still happen.

only debatable part is, if the light caused the edge. Maybe, maybe not

It does make sense and he is still growing into his body.

Not to divert too far away from the topic, there was a similar situation with FZD during the period he was switching from Vis to Golden Vis where he BH flicked less and drifted a bit further back from the table to improve his rallying ability.

This change got him over the hump with OG but I think long term it may have made him more injury prone in the lower half of his body. I distinctly remember by the time he had switched to FZD ALC he had major strapping and/or a brace around his knee.

The light arguably distracted Dima as well. I rewatched the video and whether Lin was complaining about the edge or the lighting is unclear, but he probably was pointing out the edge. Yes, the lighting staff robbed Lin for sure. But the main point is that a let is a let, it affected both players, if they decided to end the match there, it would have been a different issue but still an issue.

Dima trying to go for an edge, maybe, maybe not.

the let was not called during play. after reviewing, the let was called
Lin went from 14-12 back to 13-12
Dima went from losing, back to 12-13 and winning 3 points on the trot.
Lin got affected the most. Hence it is fair to say he was robbed, imo.

Lin unlucky
Dima lucky
they still good friends

if the lighting idiot delayed that button by 1 or 2 seconds, Lin would probably won.

The Curses of the Aztec Gold, of the Flying Dutchman, of the Black Pearl, of the Devil's triangle may have been near insurmountable for Barbossa and his crew. But I think even Captain Jack Sparrow with all his guile and finesse can't escape the curse of the Sun Yingsha. Poor Hayata.

yeah
need the players to do the job of umpires

TTR should become automated and a tool for umpires to call
should never be for review, but should be for quality control of umpires

whether Lin was complaining about the edge or the lighting is unclear,
I just got a player to send me his recording

Lin pointed to the edge first, then raise his finger to point into the light

the edge pointing, his fingers was facing down
the light, his hand/fingers was facing up.

The umpire probably acknowledge the edge and awarded point

There was no time to call the let and the let was correctly called after review. If Lin had missed the shot, they would have claimed the let too. Yes, Lin got affected the most. And yes, Lin would probably have won if not for the mistake. But the mistake was correctly handled.

Yes, and then Dima pointed out the let and that the point needed to be replayed. And the referee came to the table and agreed. It's straightforward.

yes, and that is being robbed
since these things affects everyone and does give an unfair disadvantage to try and adjust and recover from in a short time frame, during match point/knocked out point situation.

freak accident/luck if we can call it such.
This is just way worse than say a ball flying into your court.
