I wouldn't really say she was put on the back burner. Surely after her heroics in 2016, she alerted the coaches to her potential, but Wang Manyu and Sun Yingsha also broke out after her and were faster in rising up the ranks. Such is the fate of many Chinese World Junior Champions. Yu Heyi, Xu Yingbin, Xue Fei come to mind.
Now, Xunyao is getting her chances, and she's not done too bad. I think Miyuu is having a very good tournament. And Xunyao has been playing a lot in the past 2-3 weeks across various disciplines. We can cut her some slack this time. She's having the "Miwa" syndrome I guess.

Well, SXY's coaches had to defend her WTTC spot publicly and from the QQ comments it's clear the fans didn't sit well with one of their claims that "SXY is no slouch and is capable of overturning any main players of CNT".

In retrospect, losing to Nagasaki in the JGT F (with QTY, SYS and WMY) and Sofia-Xuan in JGS R32 of WJTTC 2017 put a dent in her career. The loss to Ojio Haruna at WJTTC 2019, where eventual winner Nagasaki took out Chen Yi, Wu Yangchen (retired now) and Ojio, lowered SXY's standing further.

I noted the fix he made to his game at the table before Paris 2024, namely ditching the 推挑/literally block-flick that he used to play a lot. It remains to be seen how he will respond once other players adapt.

I don't think they are worlds better as much as that he is committed to attacking hard behind them and holding the table a bit longer. He still gets too comfortable extending the rally against some players to his detriment.

That's why I want yo see him play Felix and Truls. To see whether he has truly improved or whether he will be exploited with variations of the same old play. Those guys are wily coyotes. He did struggle against Alexis but Alexis is not a true believer in holding the table or hitting the hooking forehand.
