Harimoto 4-2 Nagasaki (-9, 9, 5, -5, 9, 9)
Harimoto's FH has been off since G3 against Hashimoto. Could be fatigue and/or minor injuries.
Nagasaki's age-old problem persists in G3. Still very resistant to adjusting her shot timing even after Harimoto adapted her game by slowing down (not forcing the FH at 10:9 of G1). Same scenario at 10:9 of G5.
Harimoto got off to a quick start on her serve in G6 by playing wide to Nagasaki's FH rather than pinning her down to the BH that she had been doing prior to that point.

Back to back championships for Miwa. She had strong challenges from both Honoka and Miyu. Honoka and Miyu I think are #1 and #2 respectively in terms of biggest improvement in 2025. No shame in losing to Japan's best player.

Calderano 4-3 Duda (7, 7, -9, 8, -9, -10, 8)

Phew! "And you really think the level of their opponents was comparable?" LOL

It took Duda 2 games to figure out what serve and receive worked against Calderano and to get used to Calderano's shot quality, path, and placement. Dropping G4 after leading 6:3 was near-fatal for Duda but he managed to find his way back in after Calderano lost his concentration in G5. If not for the home-crowd advantage, Calderano could've returned to his former self.

Oikawa, Liao Cheng-Ting and Apolonia showed the top 50 players have forgotten how to handle Calderano.

More slimy behavior again. Let's remember, Uda played this tournament and couldn't get a game off Calderano. This is what zeio wants us all to believe:

1) Duda today is playing at the same level today as he was in March when he lost to Uda (the same Duda by the way who at that time had never beaten Alexis Lebrun and still hasn't till this day, though that could arguably be attributed to not playing each other recently).
2) Uda, having surpassed Togami, can't get a game off Hugo, yet improved so much that he could beat Duda and now should be rewarded for this with superior JNT status.

This is what some call ridiculousness, but zeio has never let truth and reasonableness get in the way of his desire to win an argument. (it should be noted as an aside that Togami has actually beaten both Duda and Alexis).

I don't think it's been mentioned yet but this Brazilian crowd should be comnended.

Small venue and not that many people there, but they cheered enhusiastically for great points no matter who the player was. There was even polite applause for just standard points as well in the finals.

We've been so used to dead silence for nearly every player except for fan favorites at previous events. Seeing people attend and stay engaged for the sport itself is something rare for WTT events. And I personally think we need much more of this. Thank you Brazil for coming out, even for a city I've never heard of (Fogo de Chao?)

I wholeheartedly agree. They should also be commended for respectfully shushing themselves as players readied for each point.

And kudos to the local organizers for putting the much larger (and assumedly better funded) Vegas Smash to shame by having proper risers - so all fans had unobstructed views - rather than the ridiculous few rows of folding chairs at the US event.

The staff who put together the arena are not at fault here - they are given specific instructions by WTT and execute on those instructions. In this case, WTT's agreement with the MGM Grand as well as the equipment sponsor folded mere weeks before the tournament began and they put together an emergency band aid solution. Which resulted in the shoddily put together arena you are referring to. Again, on WTT, not on the venue staff who are just following their instructions on what to do. It is actually a minor miracle that Vegas Smash even occurred. And it would've been WTT's fault had it not.

Ahem, unless it was amended in later revisions, both the event organizers and the local organizers (aka local organizing committee in the WTT Handbook) for US Smash were WTT...
