Honestly, I think the Mercury 2 is an underrated rubber. People are seeing it as a cheap rubber because it cost like less than coffee. But for that price I think it can handle everything for a split of the price of any other rubber. Yes, it lacks speed, but how many of us is playing top tier leagues or are pro players? Also, the speed depends on the blade, so you can slap it on a stiffer faster blade and you get decent speed out of it. Sure, it will never be as fast as T05 or D09, etc..but for lower leagues, I think it is worth the try.I was honestly thinking today of slapping 729 Super fx on instead of my Fastarcs and just smother my blade in controlMercury 2 might be a good idea too, only tried it for a jiffu

Hi guys,
After some time that I spend training and doing stupid stuff (changing blades and rubbers), I wanted to share some of the changes that I have experienced.
Last time I have updated this thread I was using the XIOM Offensive S with Palio Cj8000 rubbers on both sides. Then changed to Nittaku Factive, then changed the blade to Loki Kirin K5 (cheap Aliexpress blade but great for the amount of money) and put again the Factives on. Played for a couple of months with it...but I was not happy with the feeling and how I coped with the Factives, especially on my BH.
Switched the complete setup yet again to Tibhar MK ALL (ALL/ALL+ all wood blade) to slow the things down a bit and get more control. Glued a Gewo Nexxus EL 43 PRO on FH and Andro Hexer Grip SFX on the BH and thought "this is it". Played again for couple of months with it and I think I played my best games with it...but after some time I discovered this setup is great in terms of controlled way of getting the ball back, but not dangerous enough to actually put my opponents under some kind of pressure. It was more like a 3rd or 5th ball attack/smash, but not being really dangerous during pushes/openings etc. Two weeks ago a friend of mine offered me a Nittaku Factive carbon blade in exchange for some Battle 2 soft rubbers that he wanted to test. I was scared as playing with a slow all wood blade and going for a carbon blade...well, it's a huge change in speed, stiffness, feedback, dwell time...and on top of that, I glued a used Dignics 09c on the FH 🙄 just to give the D09c a test. On the BH I found a 729-802 SP and wanted to give it a try. I fell in love with the sport again. Never been hitting FH top spins like this before.
My FH top spin is more drive-like movement and I think that suits the D09c rubber quite well. Even more on a stiff blade. The SP are like a hidden gem that I've found (already messing with the thought of buying Spinfire Soft SP as it seems to be even more spiny and game wise close to playing with inverted).
So just an update that the Nittaku Factive Carbon is an underrated blade for let's say advanced beginners/low intermediate players. And that D09c feels like cheating, easy to play rubber (if it only wasn't so damn expensive and heavy). So for the upcoming summer break, seems that I'm gonna explore the SP side of table tennis.
Any advice from SP players is highly appreciated.
