It is that now, however its still shiny from the booster, and if i touch the sponge it leaves fingerprint marks, like not all the booster have been absorbed by the sponge. Its been 4 days now since the last layer.. is that normal or have i oversaturated the sponge?
Maybe you have put too much booster. Falco long lasts a couple of months at least and all the boostimg process is slower. You can already glue the rubber.

Yes I agree, a lot of the table tennis concepts apply very well to the net shots in badminton.

I think the lifts are basically just TT topspin stroke, the drop is a TT chop, and the net play is just a short push lol. Funny thing is that the shuttlecock is also spinning just like TT when you spin it. So i think i also benefited in badminton from my TT training.

But sometimes, I wonder why the footwork shortcuts cant also be applied to table tennis too? For eg the idea of a rear crossover (left foot crossing behind the right) in the chasse step could be used to cover a larger distance when moving to the wide/deep FH. I tested it out and it felt quite nice.
I suffer from too much sideways lunging as such. Moving to the right to pick up a half court smash or drive down the tramline, stepping out with right leg, lunge. This movement is so in grown that when aball goes wide to my FH in Tt that movement kicks in!!
One tip I picked up regarding badminton backhand grip, where the thumb moves to push on the flat part of the grip. When playing a backhand over head clear, using this grip causes the racket head to face towards the outer tramline. Which is increasing the chance of the clear going out.
.If you put your thumb on the diagonal section the racket angle changes and points to the inner tram line. This tip came from an ex England national junior coach via a top Chinese coach.

I thought lunging on the right leg is basically the correct way to move to the FH to prepare for the FH loop in table tennis too. I use it all the time. Even cutting off large angle counters on the BH side i will lunge with the left leg.

Yeah i also learnt to use the thumb on the diagonal section not just for BH clears/drops but also for drives (you can rotate the grip to thumb on flat side during the shotmaking process which actually increases power a bit) - learnt that from Badminton Famly lol. Feels like doing a finger snap. It is also the way I really increase the spin in the table tennis BH.

I could double shuffle. But I short lunge and straight arm stretch!! Not good!!!

My plans were to play TT after work today. My gym bag with TT equipment was in my car.

I worked late as I had many tasks that need attention. So no TT tonight.

So, I'll practice tonight at home.

I was going to play in a weekend tournament (Virginia State match) only I've been busy at work and didn't register.

Chuck
That’s fine, I found that my biggest improvements come in the rest days after training, as the brain takes time to consolidate new techniques. If you want to play at a high level, taking a break and focusing on the mental game can make a huge difference.

I caused trouble at the State Championships. I treated the match like a show and light like we were in league playing. I will not play like that again in a tourney again. I hope. I did not make the owner feel well doing that, so i will cut that out going forward.

Won U2000 and Open doubles. Doubt I will change the rating much. I doubt I will win next year if I am still U2000. The owner's son already has a strong record vs me in the last 10 league matches, by next year I will prolly be his water boy if I am still in these parts.
Wow, from what I have heard, this rating is very impressive, go for 2000.
I am aiming for 2000 in chess and table tennis lol

Had a lesson with my coach today. We are trying to work on forehand footwork not because I will necessarily use it but because it is the most fitness taxing aspect of TT and since I dont work out as much, I also need to get as much fitness from TT as I can. I have been practicing pivot forehands and my footwork has been deficient there for three most part as I never get into optimal position for the shot in a single jump. He asked me whether I hear the sound of squeaky sneakers and I said yes. He said that was caused by all the small adjustments being made to the ball. So I tried to force myself to make extra steps. He said he wasn't sure what happened but suddenly I looked far more athletic like 10 years younger. So the goal is to combine walking with some weight loss and for me, some jumping Jack's and short hops and see whether I can make adjustments steps a bit more natural. Or at least have the movement to reduce inertia and support the ability to move. Then maybe I won't get everyone and their mother looking at my game as if I am a 1700 player who doesn't know how to loop lol (1700 is nothing to be ashamed of IMHO, but that is besides the point).

Hopefully I won't get injured as a result of all this, there is a ton of work to be done.

Played yesterday again as I wanted to apply some new things into my game.

So i tested out trying to loopkill 3rd ball pushes with BH and it was a collosal failure in terms of success rates. I still like the supination focused slow opening loop with a lot of spin (or not depending on my contact), and this seems to give me a lot more success rates. Somehow, loopkill with BH can get blocked back and it is not so easy to follow up attack after that compared to slow spinny loops. The best win rates came from slow spinny opening loop to force the controlled block, then use FH to loopkill the block. Maybe I will just stick to this.

The other thing is after a loop (esp opening loop) where the leg is used to lift the ball, the centre of gravity will be a bit higher, and the solution is to drop (let the centre of gravity go down) again to re-achieve the optimal low body positioning - this also acts as a split step of sorts. In fact, in any situation where the centre of gravity is higher, just drop back down which is in fact the fastest and most energy efficient way rather than attempting to squat.

I spent 2 months in Europe this summer where i didn't play a lot (perhaps 10 times, a few summer tournaments in France, once in my old club in Paris, 3 coaching sessions in PingPangParis, including an excellent one with former national vice-champion Marie Migot whose main advice was "stay relaxed", and one lesson in Rome).
I came back in Japan just one week before the main highlight event of the year, the Asian Veteran Champs.

I did practice a lot the whole week before the tournament, but i was lacking the confidence one can have if you train and play tournaments continuously. There was no miracle at the Veteran champs. Although in the team qualification group phase, i did contribute with a very important victory against the Russian team which won silver last edition, as their 2 main members were medalists and very good players, but my opponent was probably a last minute replacement and their "hole". Our ace Indian player played fantastic and won 3-2 both medalists.
The 2nd team in qualification phase, was already disqualified as they had one player missing. I did play a no pressure match here, against a very good player, and played a fantastic G1. I had even game point but blew it. In G2 and G3 i was totally outplayed. I played also one of his colleague which was a bit less strong perhaps but more balanced and very consistent. I lost 0-3 very easily but i kinda gave up early. We were already qualified for the main draw whatever the result.

Unfortunately our Indian player was injured badly at his ankle at the end of his 2nd singles against the Russian guy and the next day in the main draw, he wasn't even 50%. I did play 1 singles against a Singaporean guy. I did win G1 easily but got very nervous afterwards and lost 1-3. Had i won maybe our Indian guy would have fought his pain and grab a win but i think in QF we would have lost if he was only 50%.

in the singles, i played very bad, twice 0-3 losses. Both opponents were 2 penhodlers (one from China, one from HK) with vicious serve variation and very good at blocking with acute placement, especially in wide FH. I don't like this style, its a bad matchup for me. In a good day maybe i would have had some chances, but i played under my average level I think here. It was the 3rd day in a row of competition, Yokohama is quite far from Tokyo, I think i got tired physically and mentally and didn't manage to sleep well day after day.

====
This WE, i played the qualification even for Tokyo Open in 50+ category. Lost 0-3. had a very bad start in G1 0-6. came back 6-6 and lost 6-11... i had really bad luck in this game. G2 i had a lot of luck, managed to be 10-8 ahead. but lost at deuce. G3 was a disaster.
But what was really bad, is that i made more than 3 serve errors per GAME, even in G2. The opponent was quite good, a Dan 1 player (he did qualify for the main event). Its impossible to win against this class of opponent like this ! I really improved a lot in many parts of the games, even receiving. Im doing much better for example against half long balls. But still struggling against reverse spin in my short FH. (my reaction and footwork is slow, new techniques for me also. I'm working on it a lot but it will take some time). Else its more about being able to read the serves.

But more than receiving, the main problem right now is my own serve. There is a lack of stability. Quality and control (of height and length) is a bit too random still. it oscillates between very good serves, and serve errors, and everything in between. That affects my 3rd ball and confidence.

In rallies, i think im now quite confident especially BH. in BH drills i really look very good even against much better players. i manage to keep the racket high with closed angles and execute with fast short strokes with quality control and regularity, and also enables to switch gears or stroke (block or counter) easily.

its a pity that i performed so bad at both tournaments because i've been playing rather well in practice recently and i was hoping for better results

Kudos to my fellow French team mate E. who did qualify for the main event in 50+

I bought a backup Innerforce Layer ALC and took it out to the club yesterday. Purposely glued it up with H3N on FH and T05 on BH to see, on the same blade, what I prefer (normal combo G1 FH C1 BH).
I have to say, this blade works really, really well with the Hurricane. To the point where I'm now confused and almost ready to replace the G1 on my main blade with the other sheet of H3N I still have.
The T05 was surprisingly good to use on BH after a bit of adjustment, but still feels like a high-risk-high-reward rubber for me (in a negative sense). I really need to commit to my shots fully if I don't want the ball to get completely uncontrollable. So for out-of-position shots, reaches, that sort of stuff, it really isn't a good rubber. C1 is much more forgiving there.
Need to reconsider my options now. I did promise myself not to change my main bat until this season ends (in a month)

I was smart enough to use my main bat in training last night. Adjustment is quick, but it still takes a couple of balls and takes attention away from other stuff.
Also I have been working on improving my core for a while now and I feel like results are starting to show. I can keep my stance better and more powerful, and it's easier that way to feel whether I'm putting my weight behind the shot or not.
The coach has been trying out a Viscaria SALC for a while now and I asked how it's going. He said it's still way too fast and he's using his IFL ZLC in matches.
He offered me to try it out, and damn he's not kidding, Super Vis is fast! Was really interesting to feel that bat, and also getting a bit of an impression on D09c and D05 on the same blade, too. The best part of the bat was the balance though, absolutely great.
After that it was more footwork and irregular drills, and some serve/receive challenges. Just really useful stuff.
This Friday we're facing our direct competitor for P1 and we have to win to take the top spot after round 7 of 10. If we lose 3-2 we'll be shared P2-3-4 😅 it's tight! So I'm glad I squeezed two nights of training in instead of one.

Got picked up on a team for this weekend's Sacramento Teams tourney.

Our team won the 6100 division and we all got sum cash.

All I had to do is turn in a solid doubles performance (by being consistent and letter top player hit winners) and we did our jobs and won.
