I'm doing a little experiment. Since I have a Q968 national and I quite like it on BH side and of FH side I really couldn't find a rubber that I fancied to much on it (that doesn't need boosting, I tried Pinyi Cuifeng and Sanwei Target National purple sponge and something else I can't remember) so I was like this blade feels fast and bouncy.
Anyway both the Cuifeng and the STN purple felt not really in good harmony on the blade, like too short contact time or I don't even know but I didn't have much good feeling about either. So I glued on a blue sponge STN since the blue STN is really transparent, it hits down on the blade almost immediately. On my Mizutani ZLC it makes a quite disgusting contact sound but the performance is undeniably good regardless.
So now I glued it on the Q968 and it sounds just fine, it feels like it has the ball contact time I expect and since STN is very transparent I can feel the blade more, and with W968 Q968 I think that is very important. If one is not using the blade all the time I think this kind of blade will suck.
Since blue sponge STN is super transparent I had the idea what if instead of my standard 4 layers of glue I try 6. So now I am testing that and my initial feel is that maybe blue STN is cured from it's too transparent property and also maybe it's a bit faster and I think the release angle is quite good.
Now is this because of the glue or the blade or which contributes how much, I don't know.
At the same time I glued my favorite sheet of Cuifeng on my W968 prov and that rubber is not slow. But the Q968 with blue STN feels so much more lively... It's like a dead ESN rubber vs a new Tenergy. Also the bounce of the Q968+STN is much higher than W968+Cuifeng and STN makes a nice clicking sound too.
The bounce from the Q968+STN is really impressively more compared to Ice Cream AZX Pro + Battle 3 Tiger and maybe the STN is a bit faster than the B3 but the Ice Cream should be much faster than Q968.
But Q968+STN is so much more lively and bouncy, really like dead ESN vs new Tenergy.
Quite exciting what will come out of this 😏 It sure would be nice to just fix STNs issues with extra 2 layers of glue and an innerforce style blade.
On BH I have Yinhe Apollo 3 on the Q968 which I also like since it feels like a sticky Fastarc G-1. Very lovely rubber and also hits down on the blade nicely, and very good for punching and chiquita. All of these features in a Chinese rubber are not that common.
On the W968 I have a black hard Yasaka Hovering Dragon so this blade has 2 black rubbers but I sure as hell don't care.
I actually like the Q968 handle a little bit better, the shape is more suitable for me, but I think W968 colors and Ma Long on the end of the handle are more appealing than Wang Chuqin even tho I am a lefty like him.
