I'm honestly a bit baffled that the mods allow this thread to go on.

Nothing is likely to come out of it other than bad blood among board members.
And you seriously think Sidorenko is going to go away quietly and these issues don't need a place to live?

Other than a forum wide ban on politics, there is no serious alternative.

This is not the first time this has come up on TTD and it won't be the last as long as the Sidorenko, Grebnev, and Katsman continue to play well on the tour.

banning Sidorenko from international events won't make a slightly difference for Ukranian people, let's be real about it.

Be consistent in your views, if you want to impose sanctions on countries who have conducted wars then you should start supporting the ban for American/Israeli athletes as well.

Considering the topic starter @piligrim , if I were the mod I'd considering banning/blocking the troll because he is here to just stir/hit more shit on the fan.

If he wanted to really ban russian athletes he would not be crying over it on a table tennis forum of all places. He would go to court and dispute the decision that allowed them to participate internationally in the first place, but he decided to just cause political drama here.

I didn't start topic

the thread is an off shoot of the recent US Smash tournament thread, some posters there didn't like the fact that Sidorenko was being allowed to play so I moved it over here.

Please keep it civil - gracias.

The world is made up of people who shape it with their thoughts and actions. And what is normal or not as well.

This thread will be a good testing bed, to make an average of our thoughts, and estimate what next mischieve is "passable". Let's add a bit of recursion into the mix...

On the contrary, I am glad that I can express my point of view as a person, who looks at these events from the inside. I would be pleased if at least one person out of all those, who read this, changed their attitude towards these events and towards our Ukrainian people for the better.
Being able to express opinions is the difference between democracy and dictatorship. Ukrainian elections have allowed people from the outside to control validity. conclusions have been democratic elections. We should also respect the FACT that it is Ukrainian civilians that are being killed daily and that Ukraine has shown a totally different attitude by not attacking the Russian civilian population with intent. Unfortunately there are people either trolls or having their facts from areas with no intention of being transparent and twisting history. I am amazed that there Ukrainians that still do sports at high level but many are being stopped doing sports due to the war which they did not start. So @Egon you have my support for sticking to real facts and a democratic and free country.

Another history lesson from the old M51...

1783363334265.png

June 1995. The war in Croatia won't be over for another two months.
Croatia doesn't protest "Yugoslavia" taking part. ("Yugoslavia" in name only, really just a Serbo-Montenegrin state that'll eventually get renamed and break apart)
Croatia doesn't boycott either. Croatia wins bronze, climbs the podium, and only walks off as the national anthem of a dead country was about to play. Croatia's coach Aleksandar Petrovic (brother of the late Drazen Petrovic, one of the greatest European baskaball players of all time) openly opposed the walk-off and no one put him on hit-list for it.

If he was living in different country can play anywhere he wants. He can represent Kazakhstan. I am not against him as person and player
So why do you think French clubs are letting him play in their leagues? Are they supporting Russia?

After several years of propaganda, torture and murder of Ukrainian activists, millions of Ukrainians would join the russian army invading your peaceful European cities. And then someone else would be writing to you that the Czech Republic has become a sacrificial pawn on the geopolitical map of the world.
And now we have won our right not to be a sacrificial pawn, no matter how much you and the russians would like it.

I'm afraid Ukraine still IS the sacrificial pawn, unf. At the same time, if CR will be sacrificial pawn, the Ukraine will look like rosy garden against it. You see, it would be or will be much worse here... Enough people must go out and say enough is enough... You too must leave this "Russians are all bad, kill them all" mentality... This has zero chance... On the other hand, if you want to die, that's not bad too... For sure I also can't imagine living in the planned "democracy" here... At the end, it is up to you @Egon

Btw. any chance for you and @jkugin to go to the Germany meeting? If you could reach CR, we can drive together. I know it's not probable, just saying.

Do you think they are supporting Russia by letting him play while he is a Russian citizen?

I admire your persistence in attempts to find out a grain of consistency. ;-)

Ooor, you're trying to catch him in inconsistency. The problem is, he won't be able to recognize it, LOL. So it is pointless... But go ahead, entertain yourself and us ;-)

Was I paid? And why didn't I receive the money?
You did not get paid, but U.S. spent over 5 billion dollars for "democracy" in ukraine which translates to influencing media and the public to stir them up against a leadership they want gone. Core elements were to make people believe the association agreement with the EU would benefit Ukranians neglecting the negative effects that lead to janukowytsch not signing it.
Things that were not part of the proposed agreement but were advertised to the people that were propagandized:
- ukraine becoming an EU full member (this was not ever part of the deal and not even the planning of them becoming eligible was part of it; while for other countriesmsuch agreements had the goal to make them full member in them)
- direct access to the EU market (the contract spoke of direct access only earliest 10 years after signing )
-ukrainians being able to work in the EU (this was explicitly excluded)
-removal of the need to get a Visa for ukranians (that was later enabled in 2017)
-ukranian products being competitive in the EU (early evaluations already predicted that only very few products would be competitive on the market and then on top remember that they would still suffer from tariffs)
Completely omitted in the pro EU propaganda was obviously that whatever positive outcomes might appear only in years after the deal, the russia reaction to it would be nearly instant.
I repeat: Ukraine's parliament remained the same. All state institutions continued to function as before. The President was abducted by the aggressor nation, Russia. New elections were held.
Could you then define what constitutes a coup? Perhaps I am misunderstanding the term?
So a few things to note: Victoria Nuland said in call to Geoffry Pyatt that Arseni Jazenjuk is the guy they want in charge. This is end of january 2014. Surely a coincidence that this guy becomes prime minister after what happenend next.
On the 20st of february sharpshooters shoot people from both opposing sides (to escalate and create chaos) from the roof of a hotel that was occupied by the maidan movement. There were even videos that showed some of the agitators stiring up people to run to places where they then could and will be shot at. Of course the instigators themselves stayed safe.

Then on 21st of february somebody removed all the police forces and guards that protected the government building AND private house of the family of Janukowytsch. Thats when he probably thought that he will be attacked by the angry mob with nobody protecting him. You have to take into account that over 100 people died the day before . I can imagine how quick selenzkej would run if he found all his security abandoned him.

I think it's silly to punish athletes for what the politicians do. Sidorenko should be allowed to compete, and under the Russian flag if he so wishes. Politics is divisive, you're often gonna find differing opinions on it. It's inherently unfair to punish some athletes but not others just because they happen to represent a politically weaker/stronger country.

So, do you think that the performance of athletes from the Third Reich with swastika flags at international competitions in 1943 would have been normal? Or is it different?

I don't have the opportunity to go abroad.
I don't want to die, on the contrary, I really want to live. I want to live and radiate light, because times are very dark.

Fantastic. That's all what is necessary. And it is strong.

Remember you mentioned something like: russian government started the war and then the population carried it. When you say something like that, it leaves the impression that you think the whole population is wrong. But if we make a small step, for a moment, we must see that the population everywhere is essentially the same. Everywhere you have women with children, grandma and grandpas and asshole men like me and you, same average. Same in Russia, Ukraine, US, even Israel. I want this average to rise, you know, so that when certain things happen, the majority looks at it with such disbelief, that in fact, they won't even happen. Much as you expressed earlier in your thought that world is made of people, their thoughts and actions... This is a certainty, we are the same. And as soon as you accept and see that the shit still happening, the next step will make you see (because there is no other chance), who and why is responsible for it... Anyway, that's enough, sleep well.
