A better forum via better moderation

I respect nextlevel contributions as a member, but as a moderator, like the majority of the users had stated, the case with tony was handled poorly given all the insights he was sharing on the site, that Is something that makes me reluctant to still have him as a moderator

Not really on topic but I think Tony is a big loss on the forum. I really miss his opinions and insights, especially on the Taiwan TT scene.
It’s a big loss that Tony is no longer here. His contributions regarding the pro table tennis scene were priceless.

I respect nextlevel contributions as a member, but as a moderator, like the majority of the users had stated, the case with tony was handled poorly given all the he was sharing on the site, that Is something that makes me reluctant to still have him as a moderator
Agree, I also respect Nextlevel contributions to this site and it would be a shame for him to see him leave as well.

Mods can make mistake and they can admit when they are wrong with the decisions.

I think it’s time to resolve the Tony situation once and for all and get Nextlevel to apologise to Tony for moving his posts to a different thread and saying the decisions that he made at the time were wrong if that what it takes for Tony to come back to TTD.

I don’t want to see other users leaving due to the power tripping from the mods.

Whether Nextlevel should remain a mod I’m uncertain but he should at least reach out to Tony and apologise though since it has been 8-9 months since the situation happen and still has not been resolved yet till this day.

That's a fair proposal - send it to Dan. Are there any other issues you want to bring up since I have presented my side of the issues which you have raised so far?
Go read up on ethics.

https://www.chinesethought.cn/EN/shuyu_show.aspx?shuyu_id=3670
以力服人者,非心服也,力不赡也;以德服人者,中心悦而诚服也,如七十子之服孔子也。 (《孟子·公孙丑上》)
Coercion can bring people in line not because they are willing, but because they do not have the strength to resist; it is virtue that will persuade others to gladly and willingly follow, just as in the case of Confucius’ more than seventy disciples who followed him out of true respect. (Mencius)

I told Carl something similar the last time.

If someone is able to show me that what I think or do is not right, I will happily change, for I seek the truth, by which no one was ever truly harmed. It is the person who continues in his self-deception and ignorance who is harmed

Sorry but when he is asking you for a honest appraisal of your perceived issues/prejudices "go read up on ethics" is not appropriate and very much not an actionable item to help your issues, just want to fight again so you can mis-link it a year later to prove a point that is being made dishonestly.

When NL is trying to reflect and de-escalate and you hurl abuse its not NL who looks bad

It is interesting how you present Carl's perspective, Carl was one of the closest friends I made on this web board. I will leave it at that.

Not me, but pictures (screenshots) is worth a thousand words.

You should have no problem in asking Carl to share screenshots with you on how he communicated via pm with Tony relating to post being moved or deleted.

No one is perfect, and no perfect mod as well. I did not follow all these fights and arguments (why waste my time?), but it is normal and hopefully no one really made it too personal.
I think as a mod, doing little is better than doing too much though. Removing/moving a thread needs to have a really good reason maybe because it is really bad/personal, not because it is irrelevant to the topic.

I almost forgot about your history of smearing Harimoto and you had to refresh my memory again.

The post (01/24/2018 at 6:50pm) is still there under a different link after the hack.

I agree!! I'm quite new here, but have enjoyed talking with all the amazing people here. I just now am reading about this and Tony's departure, which is so sad because he's helped me heaps in the past and I've bought 3 blades and numerous rubbers from him.

Regardless, forums and public discourse in general have a way of hitting people's nerves eventually due to differing opinions and taking offense. Especially with sarcasm often times being difficult to see over textual communication. Often times sarcasm *is* offensive out of context, and with posts staying here for so long, it's bound to hit people's nerves. Like you mentioned it's normal/natural.

Again I totally agree -- for mods and people serving in positions of power, doing less is better! No need to take away people's agency.

Like 9 times out of 10, every situation can be de-escalated and we can continue to enjoy sharing knowledge and fun moments with each other🥰

Oh, let's just say that you have no clue how Carl felt about many of those things because they are not important to you.

Not me, but pictures (screenshots) is worth a thousand words.

I think the moderation on TTD is fine.

I find fault in the 1-3 bad users here that are constantly complaining about the moderation.

It's the internet. There's always gonna be haters and bad users. Welcome to the internet.

Mods, fight the good fight.

looking at how mod function; I would not take the job even if Dan offer me two pieces of Zyre03.

Four and perhaps it becomes negotiable....
It’s a thankless job. I recalled not too long ago that people were complaining that the
Moderators were not doing anything at the mudslinging?

Now it’s the opposite and they should allow everyone to say what they want. It’s really hard to please everyone or should I say most people these days 🤨

Anyway the way the euro smash is going. I think more
Upsets is due today for
The men quarters

Perhaps it's not the same people? Through this thread I now have a rough idea of who they are, especially those that have reported posts.

In case some of those people are not aware, this thread by BlopChock would be seen as a 陽謀 in China.

https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/陽謀#Chinese
Etymology

Possibly coined by 1st chairman of the Chinese Communist Party and founder of the People's Republic of China Mao Zedong. On July 1 1957, Mao wrote the following for the editorial of the People's Daily in relation to the Anti-Rightist Campaign. He claimed to intentionally allow "bourgeoisie and its intellectuals" to scandalize the regime, before launching a counterattack at the right time.

……有人說,這是陰謀。我們說,這是陽謀。

[…] Some would say, this is a scheme. We would say, this is an overt trick.

https://zh.wiktionary.org/zh-hant/阳谋
陽謀也可以說是依據敵方特性,使敵方不得不踏入的陷阱。
(An open scheme can also be described as a trap that is designed based on the enemy's characteristics, forcing the enemy to step into it.)

Perhaps. But I really like for us to get along as much as possible as there seems to be different views on what actually happened before. I hope that we can go back
To focus on TT.

Why do you think LSD seems to be struggling more against European players in the past year? The current Euro Smash with the recycled plastic also seem to be troubling more players. I can’t but notice many players seem to be indicating that the ball was floating or was looking at the table as if to say the ball dipped after hitting the table. I do not know if it was also a
Recycled ball in the Yokohama tournament but many players were looking strangely at the table after missing many balls as well.

That's what I've been trying all along. I got personal attacks like it was nothing and all I did in return was "stop wasting my time" and "you're arguing with the players and coaches at this point" and it didn't sit well with those people!

The mods should be able to tell from the log, that I've never hit the report button other than for spams. I could've hit the ignore button but have resisted so far, which is against the whole concept behind a forum! Man, I could've just ignored the forum!

I'd already predicted that over at MyTT in 2023 (original post gone forever), when folks were mesmerized by "the new kid". Also, he has been dealing with injuries recently.

I thought they stopped using the RS40+ after EUR GS 2025?
