I agree, about time. Hopefully, the winners will put some of that back into promoting the sport.

I also use water at the end of my session. Most cleaners can dry out the rubber faster, making it feel more dead if they are used too often. The oil on the topsheet gives some of that life back into the dying/dry rubbers, so you can use them a few more weeks/months

I've always done it before I glue the rubbers on, so I don't get the rubbers dirty, and I can get an easier angle sanding. I just used my finger to rub the sandpaper, and get the grip very comfortable.

I feel it can be any number of things, and you can easily get frustrated. It just happens some days, but in a competition, I find having a plan B keeps myself from going into total self destruction.
