  1. New rule proposal - Different colour rubbers!

I really hope this doesn't pass. I just don't see it adding any value to the sport, and it feel very gimmicky (TTX anyone?!)
  2. Serve before receiver ready - receiver caught ball in hand

Yeah, of course, someone could potentially argue that if you are at the table and manage to catch the ball (as the OP said they did), it looks like you ARE ready to receive serve. Someone not ready to receive would either be obvious to the umpire/other player (not squatted down, back to the...
  3. Serve before receiver ready - receiver caught ball in hand

I would suggest in that example it's more to do with a potential disability of the server, than simply "not having a free hand". So if the disability meant the server couldn't throw the ball up straight, open their hand flat etc etc, the umpire would be able to overrule the usual rule, and let...
  4. Serve before receiver ready - receiver caught ball in hand

Ooo, good researching skills. This is one of those threads that happens once in a blue moon, and common sense should really prevail!
  5. Serve before receiver ready - receiver caught ball in hand

You've come on in here in a pretty argumentative mood, on a topic that you seem far from an expert in. If you want people to simply say "you are right", well that's not how it works - There are always 2 sides to it. Your examples of other scenarios include you throwing the ball from 3 metres...
  6. Serve before receiver ready - receiver caught ball in hand

First season in the league would imply that you are playing in a lower league? Until you get to the mid/higher leagues in the UK (from my experience), the "knock up" is a lottery. Some will happily do the forehand to forehand and backhand to backhand drills, although my experience says that...
  7. Serve before receiver ready - receiver caught ball in hand

Look at post 4 of this thread. Now, the definition of "strike the ball" is up for interpretation here. Does it mean with the bat? Would catching the ball, mean "striking" the ball? It's a grey area, but I could see why a stickler for the rules might want to call you out on it. Although, to...
  8. Serve before receiver ready - receiver caught ball in hand

Good point. If they are picking up the ball, and I know they are a fast server, I'll make sure I'm ready. If they don't give me much time (because they've caught the ball, or the ball was put in the net on the previous point), I'll make a point of moving away from the table, maybe even turning...
  9. Serve before receiver ready - receiver caught ball in hand

Mick, I'm not sure what you are trying to achieve here? Looking on it retrospectively, if someone were to stick exactly by the rules, you broke them, you lost the point, the referee followed the rule book to the letter. If I was the referee, I'd argue that you played the ball (because if you...
  10. Serve before receiver ready - receiver caught ball in hand

With these ridiculous fast servers (thankfully you get less of them the higher up the ranks you go), I just fo the following..... Pick up the ball. Walk back to the table. Wipe my hand by the net (pro style). Walk back to my end of the table. Check the score board if there is one. Stretch out...
  11. Serve before receiver ready - receiver caught ball in hand

Because we have some absolute tools in the UK leagues! haha. This is actually one of the more straightforward examples - It should definitely be a let, if you saw they were about to serve, you could have called out "hang on a sec" or something - If you didn't see they were about to serve, and...
  12. Serve before receiver ready - receiver caught ball in hand

Was this local league in the UK? The place where all the exciting drama happens over rules! haha. The official rule is...... It'll be a let : if the service is delivered when the receiving player or pair is not ready, provided that neither the receiver nor his partner attempts to strike the...
  13. Does anybody know how the Garaydia ALC performs?

They certainly feel a little bigger, but that could be because they are a little longer, as well as bearing a decent thickness. When i measured it against my garaydia, there wasn’t much difference in thickness, but the VSU was a bit longer.
  14. Does anybody know how the Garaydia ALC performs?

This was pretty much my only concern (smaller handle) - Especially because the VS Unlimited has a nice chunky handle which I like. But, the size dimensions of the Harimoto handle look the same as the Garaydia ZLC (which I own), and I love that. It also looks smoother/rounder, like the...
  15. Does anybody know how the Garaydia ALC performs?

Sorry, what I meant was that for "when taking all of the shots into consideration", the VS Unlimited was better. It's definitely an attacking blade - It's pretty quick! I'll be reviewing the Harimoto blade next week hopefully!
  16. Does anybody know how the Garaydia ALC performs?

The VS Unlimited is my favourite blade so far (as an all around blade). It's not as good at looping as the Garaydia, but it's better in the short to mid game for me. I've bought the Harimoto ALC, which I'm hoping will be my "holy grail" of blades, and I won't need to change again!
  17. Does anybody know how the Garaydia ALC performs?

Well, this all depends on your level - Do you have any video anywhere? I personally own the Garaydia ZLC, but have also hit quite a bit with the Garaydia ALC. For loops and away from the table play - I love the ZLC version. It offers a bit more pop, and is one of the best looping blades...
  18. typical semi-beginner questions

Hey Andre, Great to hear you had a good experience at your first club! It's so hard to know what's best and who to listen to. A forum full of random people on the internet who may, or may not know what they are talking about. Or an older gentleman whose been around the sport for years...
