@ttmonster Hah, I can kind of understand your point. As soon as I decided for myself that I really need to get my filming issues fixed, it is as if they fixed themselves. Just like the person who is lazy and does not want to work, will go to work fairly quickly once they run out of money and...
  2. how to return top side spin ball serve (illustration)

@UpSideDownCarl Left and right being relative from us, the viewer, right? The way I've understood it is that when I contact a sidespin serve, it wants to go towards a rightie's backhand. When I contact a reverse sidespin serve, it goes to their forehand. So, I just aim towards the forehand...

I'll keep it in mind for when I can invest into something like that. I don't wanna go forever with workarounds, but I'll have to for now.
  4. how to return top side spin ball serve (illustration)

    @UpSideDownCarl Something like this?
  5. Daily Table Tennis Chit Chat

@UpSideDownCarl You have no idea how un-cooperative my camera is in staying at a good angle. I thought it would be easy too but it's one of those things you need to experience to understand. It needs some kind of propping or suspension system, and it needs to be very secure. Okay, I thought...

Holy crap, instead of making a new post, I just edited this one! Well there goes this post... Look below.
  7. Daily Table Tennis Chit Chat

@NextLevel So what do you recommend then? That I don't strive to be able to hit the ball more properly when I have to move into it, and just try to reach for the ball and fall into it instead? When should I start focusing on moving, when my forehand is 2000 level and I can hit the ball...

@UpSideDownCarl I'm only really looking at my legs when I film these back-angles. Mostly because I have no other angles to really film from with a semblance of effectiveness. However I do feel that the legs show pretty well from the back: and I specifically wanted a view from the back...
  9. Daily Table Tennis Chit Chat

Ah, yes. I hadn't thought of that: what if my apparent lack of body movement and the different impression that the views give when compared to each other, is simply a visual anomaly! I will acquire national issue clothing as soon as possible. With the visual anomaly dealt with, surely my game...

I put myself and ZJK side to side doing some forehand footwork, because I was watching a video and got a really nice angle on him doing the footwork that I absolutely suck at. I really don't know what the hell I'm doing when I, uhhh, "perform" this footwork, but this is actually quite...
  11. How to improve the footwork ?

I think it's worth mentioning: take video! You will see your timing and movement much more objectively than just "feeling" it.
  12. Daily Table Tennis Chit Chat

Some footage from today. Whatever I'm doing with my legs when I move towards my forehand has really gotta stop. It doesn't look too productive for movement nor for transferring energy.

@JeffM 0:30, I don't think that's a topspin serve. I would treat it more like no-spin to be honest.* The reason you popped it up is because your angle is open and you pushed through the ball, not the spin IMO. *To me, a topspin serve means that it truly has a good bit of topspin on it, and...

I've noticed, based on video, that I have overall pretty good body movement on the backswing and start of swing, but I have a really serious lack of following through with my body rotation. I think I am probably pretty seriously decelerating into the swing, due to that. I'm pretty certain it's...
  15. Why do the Brits suck at Table Tennis when they invented it

We've seen this thread already. Spambots/shitposters **** off.
  16. Attempting the Liu Guoliang Serve Challenge

Yeah, the real hard part is generating the spin. You have to get the placement and depth right according to the spin, and the more you get, the more precise it needs to be because of how non-linear the ball is in it's travel. No easy feat to do it with heavy under.

Just now played an old Mathematics teacher. Old gent, in his late 60's to 70's. He wasn't well aware what had been going on while he was away, and the first disconnect was when he asked if he had served to five already when I went to serve. I explained that nowadays, we actually serve to 2 and...
  18. Friendly match Video, feedback please!

As expected from the greatest sports-artist on the planet.

I'd argue that the USATT system is pretty logarithmic, and a jump from 2100 - 2600 is more than 6 levels, everything considered. That in mind, NL did very well.
