  1. Use of observational learning

Ah, okay. Yeah, at that level, on serve return especially, they get pretty good at withholding such information. But a huge part of that is their choice of grip for those kinds of strokes as some grips don't give you that flexibility. Good luck with figuring that out on video analysis.
  2. Use of observational learning

This is good and very important, but it can also be dangerous if you think that people are always consciously doing those things. Some of the larger changes are trained (grip switches), but things like opening the paddle might just be the natural outcome of the swing trajectory or an...
  3. What made you stick with Table Tennis?

I played quite a bit as a kid even if I had no clue what proper technique was. I did have an idea of how to hold a racket, even if not all the nuances that I coach now. This was in Nigeria and we didn't always play on proper tables, even though my family had a table. We sometimes played on...
  4. Zhang Jike technique

This is not completely true, though it has some validity, and was more valid before the development of modern backhand techniques. Like you said, the problem is that you cannot change direction with a weak ball and that the forehand is generally more powerful than the backhand. That said, a...
  5. Ilia Minkin's Excellent TT Adventure in NY

Lily is about 1.5 hours from me so I need to know the specific day he plans to be there and whether I will be there. If he goes on Friday night for their league, then I can try to make that.
  6. Go for those nets and edges!

This is one of the easier ones but still spectacular and shows how focused the pros are on the ball. From 0:24.
  7. Use of observational learning

Sports psychologists recommend such things to you, especially if you can do it with your own matches/points.
  8. Go for those nets and edges!

That's an important but simplified part of a very complex story that would take too long to tell... My answer would be more along the lines of once you have strokes and feeling that can control the ball, and you can move to the ball in balance, and you are able to read the ball better, you are...
  9. Mizutani to Orenburg

Ovtcharov hits the ball as hard as anyone in the world.
  10. Mizutani to Orenburg

Mizutani will actually gain much more than OVtcharov will - Mizutani will get a chance to practice against CNT-level power. Ovtcharov still needs to find someone with CNT level power to practice against consistently.
  11. Mizutani to Orenburg

My guess is that long term, they are going to wind down Samsonov so they want to start it early rather than later as he ages. Otherwise, this makes no sense.
  12. Suggestions

Very soon, every thread in TTD will be titled "Suggestions".
  13. Tenergy 64 vs tenergy 64 fx for backhand

Fine. T64 FX and T64 have the same topsheet but T64FX has a softer sponge. The topsheet for T64 already feels relatively soft so this makes T64FX feel softer and have a nice dwell. It's arc is slightly lower than T64 and on drives, it seems to play faster with a slightly longer trajectory...
  14. Tenergy 64 vs tenergy 64 fx for backhand

These kinds of questions should be retired someday - the answer is always: it depends on your technique and what you are trying to do.
  15. dynamic table tennis - has anyone tried?

I bought the video - it is pretty intense. It is almost impossible to keep up with Brian. Also, he won't improve your form - it will mostly be an exercise of your existing form and understanding. That said, it will develop your cardio base for your existing technique.
  16. Carl's Top Ten Troublemaking Escapades

The fact that I didn't have a really good Butterfly blade and out of the ones I looked at and had seen other people use, it was the one that appealed to me that most because there is a high level coach in the next state and most/all of his students use it. The top two juniors in my club use...
  17. Which Evolution rubber should I choose for my backhand?

Basically, they have a December25 bonus code that amounts to the same thing until Jan 10. Not sure if they will continue the deal after JAnuary 10, but the December25 bonus code deal is equivalent.
  18. Which Evolution rubber should I choose for my backhand?

Actually, things are not what they appear, Rayeez. PM me if you want an explanation.
  19. Which Evolution rubber should I choose for my backhand?

That is depressing - might actually send me back to T05...
  20. Tenergy 05 vs Tenergy 80

Yes, but that is if you are into passive returns. If you like to push and spin aggressively, the T05 reaction is a benefit. It's when you try to just touch the serve without any acceleration that using T05 is a nightmare.
