  1. Carl's Top Ten Troublemaking Escapades

I am using the Innerforce ZLC + MX-P and I haven't had any bad losses to lower rated players practicing with it yet. So that just means that I have to adjust to it vs. higher rated players over time. The balance of the Innerforce ZLC is really excellent - much less head heavy than the Timo...
  2. Carl's Top Ten Troublemaking Escapades

Innerforce ZLC. As for the really dark side, since I am coaching, stay tuned. I am auditioning Spinlord Waran right now and I want to get Spinlord Degu as soon as it comes in to the dealer in NJ. But unless my shoulder gets worse, it is a stretch I will switch completely. But I do want to...
  3. Carl's Top Ten Troublemaking Escapades

Nah - I took a leaf from Star Wars and went with my Inner Force!
  4. Carl's Top Ten Troublemaking Escapades

I doubt it. I am pretty much joining the dark side and using Butterfly blades. Tenergy or Evolution is the only other decision left to be Frank.
  5. Carl's Top Ten Troublemaking Escapades

I have no clue what anyone here is talking about. All I know is that tension exists, fairies don't and tension fairies are a looper's best friend... huhuhuhuh....
  6. Use of observational learning

You make a great point, fais, and that is in part what I meant when I wrote that any proper emulation is purely accidental. Anyone who wants to get better will always do something like what Siva and Andy doing - it is their awareness of what they are doing wrong that is missing. I am a...
  7. Use of observational learning

Excellent post, Carl. FWIW, the occasions I speak to Brett about stuff like this, or even my current coach about such stuff, the more I learn how little I really understand. But as you pointed out with people who have an understanding of some of this having practiced it with guided coaching...
  8. Use of observational learning

I think that there is a lot to be gained by watching better players. That said, what they do is usually not transparent so any proper emulation is often accidental. What is likely though is that watching them encourages us to see new possibilities in the sport so that we are more emboldened to...
  9. Merry Christmas to everyone here!!

Merry Christmas, my friends! It's been a great year and TTD has been a part of it!
  10. Tenergy 05 vs Tenergy 80

Most people, including Butterfly reps, discuss T25 and T25FX as rubbers that are specialized Tenergies. Most discussion is about T05, T64 and T80 as those are similar rubbers along a continuum.
  11. Tenergy 05 vs Tenergy 80

If you loop everything and are active in the short game with spin manipulation, Tenergy 05. If you block more and are a bit more passive in the short game, the more linear precision of T64 and T80 might be more to your liking.
  12. Which Evolution rubber should I choose for my backhand?

I thought it was just me scratching my head... it all depends on what you like and how you swing.
  13. Evolution MX-P with Virtuoso + or V'King

I loved the Blue one, hated the Black one. I just couldn't control anything with the Black one - bounciest wood blade I have ever played with.
  14. If Ma Long wins the 2016 Rio Olympics...

Carl, your arguments are at least as reasonable as mine if not far more so.
  15. If Ma Long wins the 2016 Rio Olympics...

Maybe I am a fan boy, but I thought Ma Long was the best player of the modern era before he won the WTTC and I think that the emphasis on *winning* the Majors is a bit overdone so the argument could not be made. After all, I consider WLQ the other greatest player of the modern era (and a real...
  16. I don't understand the USATT rating system.

It really depends on what his current rating is - the adjustment formula is continually tweaked but it pulls you to somewhere that is often an average of your initial rating and the average of your best win and lowest loss or something like that. So if he started really really low, he will not...
  17. Why are Evolution rubbers still less popular than tenergy?

MX-P feels too soft for me too when new. I prefer it when the booster smell goes away and it plays a little harder, but I doubt this would be the view of most higher level players. Higher level players want the hardness but still boosted, obviously. The topsheet grip is excellent. Someone...
  18. Why are Evolution rubbers still less popular than tenergy?

The difference between MX-P and T05 depends on certain things. For me, I think T05 is better for pure looping and easy spin, but I can't complain about the price of MX-P and the quality and given my touch limitations and my desire to kill backspin, I probably play better with MX-P when the...
  19. The frustration of TT

Mistakes, luck and tough losses are part of life and table tennis. I have been on both sides of the equation and may share a few stories if I ever get on a PC today.
  20. Current state of Xu Xin

What I remember someone said was to get a rubber that gives the ball more arc (which is not necessarily the same as more spin, per se) so that he has more time to cycle. Whether this is valid or not, that was my interpretation of what was said.
