  1. FH sideswipe / fade

Lol I just saw my stroke in the mirror and realised why it wasn't too consistent in matches, it was really a wild swing with a lot of arm backswing lmao - it was producing some spectacular spin though. Sometimes the mirror does indeed tell the truth haha. Now that I eliminated the arm backswing...
  2. I wanna play with the big boys!

The problem with relying on reading ball contact points is that at higher levels, all of them serve with almost the same movement for different spins and placements. I struggled af against my current penholder practice partner in the beginning because his serves look exactly the same between...
  3. I wanna play with the big boys!

Personally I found that a lot of my touch came from learning how to serve different types of serves with high quality (with a lot of spin) FH Tomahawk/hook = standard FH push FH pendulum = FH sideswipe BH pendulum = BH strawberry BH tomahawk/hook = standard BH push
  4. FH sideswipe / fade

Yep Waldner also adds in the fake body movement which I also attempt to do. But this stroke (used from the FH pivot position) is less applicable these days because everyone has strong BHs, and this stroke simply allows the other player to open up with the BH loop (albeit with difficulty due to...
  5. FH sideswipe / fade

Basically, this is how to adjust for different spins as I understand now. Against FH pendulum, contact slightly on the right side of the ball. Against BH pendulum, contact slightly on the left side of the ball. Against straight serves, contact back to slightly on the left too. Against topspin...
  6. I wanna play with the big boys!

I think it's the feeling of absorbing the incoming momentum of the ball using the body and fingers before releasing it to whatever placement you want. Ppl with "hard" contact with the ball cannot develop feeling. I've watched a few Chinese tutorials about this. Unfortunately, English language...
  7. Super shot by Chinese Taipei Junior

Double twiddle lol - that ball looked like it had some weird, weird spin on it....

It's just a slight bending/unbending at the knees a few times prior to contact with the ball by the server. I usually do it about 3-4 times. No need to move the feet. I even do this during warm-up (when server serves the ball to me)

+1 on this post. Also, fixed spot BH-BH or FH-FH topspin rallying is really like 1% of the "topspin" skill ladder if you will. For me it goes something like this: 1) looping heavy backspin easily without losing balance or position. This is where majority of the rally happy ppl just fail...
  10. FH sideswipe / fade

Thanks for sharing - yes this video you shared goes into a lot of detail in terms of contact points against different serves. It is indeed a very safe, versatile and flexible way of receiving especially against short serves of unclear spin. It is also one of Waldner's favourite shots against...
  11. I wanna play with the big boys!

I totally get Lazer's point about not trying to serve too deceptive to get into more enjoyable rallies. I also don't use my strongest serves when playing against certain players. I don't think he was being disrespectful its just a way to approach the game. Personally I enjoy the serve/receive...
  12. FH sideswipe / fade

I've been talking a lot about FH sideswipes or fades and it's one of my favourite receives. imo this is one of the more nasty FH receives, the principle is the same as a FH pendulum serve. This produces either a sidetopspin or a sideunderspin depending on how you brush the ball.

I also tried shuffling before and it is indeed quite tiring, so I switched away from it. So what I noticed from some newer pro players especially the LeBrun brothers and also Anders Lind is the bounce on the knees method to start the engines (for the legs that is). I found that to be equally...
  14. Delivering the ball at rocket speed. 60 Kmh maybe.

Yes, it is as fast as Asuka Sakai's version. Also he disguises it like he's about to do a tomahawk serve! Does anyone have a video where Anders Lind aces someone with this? That would be good to watch!
  15. I wanna play with the big boys!

Agreed with all the posts here that serving is crucial to reach a higher level. If you're not using good serves it's like playing with a handicap vs players who serve well. One key point that very few ppl talk about, is the use of the body rotation and weight transfer in serves - it is...

serve and serve receiving is almost everything in TT. You need some good solutions vs almost all serve archetypes (FH pendulum, BH pendulum, straight heavy underspin/no spin), and a good plan for the next few balls. Similarly you need to have serve and 3rd ball patterns you can safely rely on...

Tested the new method to produce both sidetopspin and sideunderspin with similar looking pushes. It basically works with quite good deception I think. But the applicability is limited to BH receiving BH pendulum short serves or FH receiving FH pendulum short serves, and if the opponent doesnt...
  18. Any xiom rubbers like Dignics 09c?

How's the spin like and does it last long?
  19. Daily Table Tennis Chit Chat

Sidespin is too easy to read where im playing. I never push straight anyway, the sidespin helps tremendously with control. But, a short push with sidetopspin (that looks like a push) will really give some long pips vibes to the opponent. My training partner has the nastiest LP short push which...
  20. Daily Table Tennis Chit Chat

I am theorycrafting a new type of short "push" which produces sidetopspin instead of sideunderspin lol but looks exactly like a normal short push. It uses the same wrist mechanics as how I serve pure topspin using a hook serve movement. It is the next generation of the "pushflick" concept to...
