  1. For those over 30yo, what could you have done differently?

I almost never pivot, but its really annoying to get all those balls that look like opportunities on the BH side but because they're kinda awkwardly deep and high I can miss a lot of them or attack it too weak. Whereas these balls are kinda mincemeat for FH pivots. So basically either I develop...
  2. For those over 30yo, what could you have done differently?

Damn, as a younger guy now looking at these posts maybe I shouldn't be training my FH pivot and instead solve the BH issues for eg BH smash, and play BH from the BH corner.
  3. Advice to improve my game.

This is not about perfect technique at all. I have taught probably dozens of newbies to loop underspin with this exact method by Ti Long and imo it is the easiest way and most of them are able to do it just within 1 session (i taught one guy exactly this during my last session and he got it...
  4. I wanna play with the big boys!

You need to proofread a bit before you post lol... English is my 2nd or 3rd language and I never ever written anything like that... Anyway all good. I'm done with this topic. It doesn't help me either because I don't lose all that often to pips players near my level anyway, they're not my...
  5. I wanna play with the big boys!

Dude this is close to unreadable....
  6. Advice to improve my game.

@PhilT two other supplementary exercises for you to learn how to spin the ball on both forehand and backhand. These are very important basics.
  7. Advice to improve my game.

Even if he accelerates like crazy, without the proper spin neutralising contact, he's gonna fail against any kind of serious backspin (maybe not at his level but later on). With the correct technique, looping backspin is extremely easy just like looping topspin. No brute force or super...
  8. Advice to improve my game.

I would argue against everyone here. No matter what sort of "whip" or acceleration or how hard or fast he swings, if he doesn't understand how to overcome the backspin and produce topspin in a relaxed way, he's never gonna develop a good stroke because the fundamental understanding of the way of...
  9. Advice to improve my game.

I would advise you to watch 2 of Ti Long's videos below to learn how to overcome backspin easily. You seem to be struggling because you haven't figured out how to convert incoming backspin to your own topspin.
  10. I wanna play with the big boys!

It's funny right on page 2 (after guy got convinced by his Chinese coach to change to short pips from long pips), this is what he wrote: "what I miss the most is the serve receive with long pips.....SO EASY... I hate having to pay attention...." LOL right out of the horse's mouth....busted!
  11. I wanna play with the big boys!

It takes a bit of a devious mind to make them suffer. Tbh I love playing games against overly confident lazy af pips players and give them a taste of their own medicine in terms of spin variation / deception. Too many inverted players play like "nice guys". You should remember that "nice guys...
  12. Playing against chaotic players

If they have no loop to speak off and push all the time, just serve fast long with heavy spin variation to all extreme corners of the table. The best are the heavy sidespin serves, if they ever try to touch the ball randomly it's just gonna fly left, right, up, down (depending on what serve) you...
  13. I wanna play with the big boys!

You can do this same stroke with inverted. It's called a fake loop which looks like a loop but has zero topspin (I reckon it actually still has backspin). It's quite effective against LP players because they have no spin to borrow. Basically against underspin, you open your racket angle and...
  14. I wanna play with the big boys!

yes, I fully agree with this. But the problem is that choppers also use it. The other big problem is that old ppl are a big part of the sport, and if you ban these rubbers, they are simply unable to compete with the youngsters anymore. Which is normal in any other sport and they should accept...
  15. I wanna play with the big boys!

Yes the problem is that they create a lot of problems to solve for the opposing player while not needing to "adapt" themselves. You see how you're giving the burden of spin judgment always to the inverted players and not the LP players themselves. So in a sense you're actually supporting my...
  16. Chinese National Team Warm Up Matches for Asian Championship

LGY won all of his matches in this tournament I think? His BH was so insane especially that point at 5-2 in the 3rd set.
  17. Chinese National Team Warm Up Matches for Asian Championship

Yeah it was jaw dropping to see her attack all of those nasty chops. Ma Te is no slouch at all, he was the only chopper to have ever won against Xu Xin who is well known to just destroy choppers at will.
  18. I wanna play with the big boys!

Yes, the most effective serve return players are inverted players simply because the skill ceiling is way higher. I wouldn't ever switch to LP for eg personally because the chiquita is such a strong weapon that I spent so much time on developing, giving it up would be stupid. Even spin variation...
  19. I wanna play with the big boys!

You also have to take into account the difficulty of the chiquita compared to a LP push. You actually have to use the body, fingers, arm properly for the chiquita and there are actually different ways of brushing the ball depending on whether you're facing pendulum or reverse pendulum or...
  20. I wanna play with the big boys!

Yes, you have to take landing %s into account in terms of threat level. If I land a super fast and spinny chiquita 100% of the time, sure the chiquita is way more devastating than your LP push, but if the landing rate drops to 50% nobody cares how fast it is, it is still a bad receive.
