The flat backhand, i find that rhe guys wtih good looping backhands don't mind it. The toppsin is to me a different story especially vs. backspin. Sometimes he plays it dead sometimes he loads it up and for someone with "poor technique ", the amount of spin and the errors made blocking and...

With all honesty i think you underestimate the edge of Truls forehand and overestimate the value of his punch (in fact i think one of his biggest changes to improve his game has been his ability to backhand topspin even if unconventionallyy). That said no point splitting hairs, we agree he is a...

I would say unparalleled period, it is a full package forehand that no other player can match, can pick up the half long , counter and place the ball like no other, all with extremely high quality. The placement and deception with versatility is what many other forehands don't have.

Attacking behikd a serve requires you to learn placemenrs of returns, the spins etc. So it isnt trivial especially for an eatablished player. Both Harimoto and Hugo in different ways just want a ball they can read back from the opponent and it is harder when you add your own sidespin. But for...

I actually disagree, i think Truls has one of the best forehands in the world (easily the best in Europe) and the main thing is to play a bit like him and stop trying to overpower him with the first shot but to to put him out of position with strategic serving. One of the reasons why Hugo...

I think not using the chop block as often against Darko was one of the keys to Truls victory. He usually loat to Darko in the big matches in the European top 16 so i had predicted Darko would win again. But Truls played a very disciplined match, avoiding overwhelming Darko with power and using...

If you can't admit something as basic as that Truls is a good player who has won more world championship singles medals than Harimoto and more Olympic medals than Harimoto and has led Sweden to quite a few titles and you repeatedly try to paint Truls as a special cancer to the Swedish team who...

Unfortunately we will have to wait til LA 2028 (or at least a bit longer) to fully unserstand why Ma Long and Tiebans believe that Harimoto is so far ahead of Truls and Sora and Felix that it is silly to even consider the alternative. Looks like the umpores were asleep.
  10. WTT Contender Panagyurishte 2026 8 - 13 September 2026

It is nice when you publish these analyses and forget what drove the issue in the first place. You did not mention anything about Dima being washed up. when he beat LYJ or Harimoto. You were the one who actually used the idea of "washed up" to selectively insult Dima (and Truls) when Truls...

I was right about Hugo backing off but I didnt realize that was a superpower vs Sora lol. Good win. Sora showed some tactical evolution but insufficient stability. Hatimoto is now the favorite for this. Thr interesting thing is that he si playing against opponents he has good head to heads...
  12. WTT Contender Panagyurishte 2026 8 - 13 September 2026

Kawakami loses to the "washed up" Dima in a close match. I want to be "washed up" too.

Truls has learned his lesson from past encounters and works harder to move Darko around before trying to overpower him. That said Darko's ability to bring back the ball and attack loose returns had kept thr match stable. The best match of the day so far for me. EDIT: Truls tried to use the...

I like ZQH and respect his accomplishments but I have never liked his backhand especially against underspin with the old school technique. His coach (and possibly himself) did him dirty on that one.

They took long enough. That match was a reminder of what best of 7 isn't always better lol. The match was longer because of two key games but you could have eliminated the last two games and gotten the same result lol.

I would pick Truls too in the abstract. But like Hayata Odo, Chen Yi Han Ying, and Kallberg Lebrun, I am respecting the H2H. Truls and Darko played in a few Euro Top 16 finals.

  18. WTT Champions Macao 2026, 9/8-13

Tough picks... Hayata (coin flip between injured players) Hatimoto (dicey but this is not a Smash lol) Han Ying ( Chen Yi should have fixed it by now but until she does, I have to go with logic) Darko - he usually owns Truls - it is a weird matchup Alexis - nothing personal, Kallberg can take...
