  1. high and low throw rubbers

Killerspintt, What is your rating/ranking in France? Just curious. NL.
  2. high and low throw rubbers

No, that's not the problem. The problem is that his level of table tennis is not high enough for him to know what he should be doing vs. what he is doing so he thinks they are the same thing. I know because I was there - when I was 1700, I had a long conversation after a bad loss with my coach...
  3. high and low throw rubbers

I will quote myself once more: Pnatchwey and I have history on the mytabletennis.net board. He's a smart guy, but he doesn't appreciate his limitations as a table tennis player and it's annoying to discuss table tennis with anyone without that awareness (...). As a sidenote, Pnatchwey...
  4. high and low throw rubbers

BTW, here is the video Pnatchwey is talking about And here is a bonus video. Can anyone estimate his technique level?
  5. Fish scales pattern Viscaria

They need to promote the "fish scales" as being magically created and scientifically proven to raise TT looping spirits from the dead and imbue the ball with special resonances. Then make it a custom centennial Viscaria type with typical Butterfly inflated pricing. Quartersawn wood just sounds...
  6. high and low throw rubbers

Pnatchwey and I have history on the mytabletennis.net board. He's a smart guy, but he doesn't appreciate his limitations as a table tennis player and it's annoying to discuss table tennis with anyone without that awareness (think of the story you gave of how you evaluated a blade when you...
  7. high and low throw rubbers

Pnatchwey, A coherent response with a positive thesis would be helpful. Taking statements out of context is bad practice. A few points in response to your drive-by mishmash: A player's style makes a difference but equipment makes it easier or harder to play that style. At the highest levels...
  8. General dislike of LP's?

Did you see the revenge matches I posted on my ooak blog thread? I couldn't play Song as he didn't enter the league, but he had a replacement who used SP FH, LP BH and I beat Liu in straights for the first time.
  9. high and low throw rubbers

Not sure I agree with this. Generally, high throw vs. low throw *equipment* as I understand it (and I am to some degree parroting William Henzell) is more about whether you primarily want to generate your own speed and spin or whether you want to primarily borrow your opponent's speed and spin...
  10. New setup, need advice

You already have good rubbers - don't waste your time unless you are broke.
  11. Butterfly Zhang Jike ALC or Stiga Carbonado 145

If you have a good loop, all this stuff is trivia at the margins and more about personal taste than objective considerations.
  12. General dislike of LP's?

My coach actually incorporates short pips and then long pips into his loop lessons fairly early (1100-1400 rating) either when you face long pips or you are trying to get a higher level loop. His rationale is that short pips don't feed your loop topspin to work with so you are forced to...
  13. Forehand topspin arm movement -.Frustration !

Andy, I worked very hard on this myself. http://ooakforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=58&t=27371 The biggest advice I received was summarized in this post, though there are other nuances I talk people through when I coach them. http://ooakforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=58&t=27371&start=75#p292375 I...
  14. European Games - Baku 2015

That's not izra's point. When you play a certain style, you usually get good at playing at style against other people. Table tennis is like chess, but good chess players are not even that creative - what they are good at is memorizing lots of positions - the creativity happens at the extreme...
  15. General dislike of LP's?

This is pretty false and is just you making an excuse that you do not realize is self-perpetuating. The truth is that learning anything as complicated as table tennis takes time. You have to learn to play against one thing before moving to another. If you start out learning against inverted...
  16. European Games - Baku 2015

Can't this commentator remember when someone has already used his timeout?
  17. European Games - Baku 2015

Its not banned in the Olympics but it's banned for major ITTF events (World Cup, WTTC and WTTTC). IMO, every country has its immigration policy. No one should complain if their country is doing what it needs to to keep the sport alive. Many of those players are raising the level of TT in Europe.
  18. Technique reverting to pre-lesson standard. Why?

SugaD, TareqPhoto isn't wired like the rest of us. Accept it quickly and early or like UpsideDownCarl and myself, you will be stuck throwing 3*-balls into the ocean. NL Andy, Everything takes time. I remembered when I came back to this sport 4 years ago (and I never learned to loop or spin...
  19. Use of 'shadow' training?

Yes, that has been my experience as well. In fact, shadow stroking encouraged me to try lefty footwork drills. Weird but true.
  20. European Games - Baku 2015

We probably would have if Pitchford posted here as often...
