I've recently returned to the fabulous sport of table tennis after an absence of 25 years and (like everyone else?) I'm a bit puzzled with the new plastic balls. I'm getting used to the slowness but I'm failing to understand the white powder that all balls seem to be covered with (so far I've tried Andro, Stiga, DHS and Double Fish).
I've googled but I still feel that some questions are unanswered.
I would really appreciate if someone could answer the following:
1) Does the stains on the rubber decrease the spin?
2) Is it possible to get rid of the powder? I've tried water + a damp cloth with no real success. The only thing that seem to remove it is using it during practise.
3) What is the powder? Plastic residue from the mold used to make the ball?
