CNT "specially manufactured rubbers"

Hey guys,

Whenever I ask a pro about what kind of rubbers the Chinese National Team uses they always say it is " specially manufactured".
So what is with that " specially manufactured rubber?"

Is it factory tuned?
Do the players choose the thickness on their own will?
Is it the same with the National version available in the market?

Thanks,
Judah

There are many fake 'National Version' DHS rubbers out there, and not necessary that all have blue sponge. Ma Lin uses the normal orange sponge. Probably that they're factory tuned, before the receiving the ITTF stamp. Tuning after the official ITTF stamp is considered illegal. And yes also that they choose they're own thickness as long as the rubbers do not exceed the ITTF regulations.

As for the specially manufactured rubbers, the answer is no, but the rubbers chosen for these athletes are the best ones from the batch manufactured. On the other hand, the blades are probably manufactured for each individual players, according to their preferences.

Manufactuers only send the topsheet to be certified. ITTF allows the "Factory" to tune the living crap out of the sponge and sell/market it, since that is what the factor consideres its finished product. According to ITTF president, after that, no moar tuning is allowed. If we, as consumers do the tuning ourselves, that is considered illegal tuning. What irony.

Sorry, I don't know english.

Professional versions of rubber mean that the rubber has the highest of quality control and is cut from the very center of a rubber roll. Contrary to popular believe the rubbers are not created individually in the small squares we know see them as, but in larger rolls and the best of these would obviously be in the center of each roll meaning for professionals to choose from. There are specifica aspects that the players will ask for such as weight, degree of hardness, as well as certain characteristics that may be unknown to us, for instance I know CNT have access to 2.2 sponge for tenergy rubbers when they are not readily available to the open market.

When National versions are out to the market they are not readily available (implying they are manufactured for commercial purposes) but are on a first come first serve basis from private dealers.

To be honest most professionals at the highest levels are at the level where they need that better equipment. It'll take decades for the rest of the world to learn that kind of control.
