Tonight's match has ended in yet again another draw for Kolbermoor.

Dachau vs Kolbermoor 5-5

Byun/Pranjkovic vs Huang/Wang 3-2
Winter/Cosic vs Kaufmann/Jokic 1-3
Byun vs Huang 3-2
Winter vs Kaufmann 3-1
Pranjkovic vs Jokic 2-3
Ernst vs Wang 0-3
Byun vs Kaufmann 3-0
Winter vs Huang 3-0
Pranjkovic vs Wang 0-3
Ernst vs Jokic 2-3

Dachau played with five players tonight so Cosic played just doubles. The upper pair was strong with Byun and Winter each winning both their matches. Kaufmann apparently injured herself severly during the second game against Byun and had to forfeit. No other details known so far. Their efforts were not enough though since the lower pair of Kolbermoor managed to win all their matches after mostly losses so far. With Itagaki Dachau would have probably won easily, but I couldn't find out if she was not available. Thanks to the single points from all of the draws Kolbermoor is now fourth in the ranking. Langstadt and Dachau will battle out second place tomorrow before the short winter break starts.

I will be known as the forever-late-guy at this rate. Didn't get to watch the second match live as I was at a tournament for most of the day and these team matches are just way too long to catch up with.

Langstadt vs Dachau 2-6

Mantz/Lupulesku vs Byun/Winter 0-3
Schreiner/Morsch vs Cosic/Ernst 3-2
Mantz vs Winter 1-3
Schreiner vs Byun 1-3
Lupulesku vs Ernst 3-2
Morsch vs Cosic 1-3
Mantz vs Byun 1-3
Schreiner vs Winter 2-3
Lupulesku vs Cosic 0-1
Morsch vs Ernst

No stream and no highlights, but Langstadt was without Paranang so a win would have been hard. Schreiner was up 2-0 against Winter, lost in the decider though. Winter is still unbeaten with 11 wins and is leading the ranking of the league followed by Kaneyoshi and Paranang. The Bavarian association posted highlights from her match against Kaufmann that took place the day before:

Winter vs Kaufmann

Berlin vs Weinheim 6-1

Griesel/Neumann vs Nguyen/Sadikovic 3-1
Mittelham/Surjan vs Kim/Jeger Majstorovic 3-0
Mittelham vs Jeger Majstorovic 3-0
Surjan vs Kim 3-0
Griesel vs Sadikovic 2-3
Neumann vs Nguyen 3-1
Mittelham vs Kim 3-1
Surjan vs Majstorovic 1-2
Griesel vs Nguyen
Neumann vs Sadikovic

Wan being still injured sat this one out so Jeger had to move up into the upper pair where she had no chance against Mittelham. Kim, the new Asian player for Weinheim, has been underperforming with one win and six losses this season so far. Sadikovic, the back-up player from the second team, had a crazy match against Griesel. She was up 2-0, then down 2-9 in the decider and won the final game 16-14 in the end. Pretty one-sided win for Berlin otherwise. Jeger was actually up 2-1 against Surjan, but with Kim's loss against Mittelham that match wasn't concluded. Berlin clearly benefitting from having the biggest roster while Weinheim continues to have the worst season yet. The goal is now to make it into the top four to qualify for the play-offs and is betting on the 2. Bundesliga's top player Matiunina to reach it. If you want to catch up here are the links:

Table 1
Table 2

Berlin is the only club with no losses and draws so far and is leading the ranking. Dachau is second, Langstadt third and Kolbermoor with all the draws is fourth.

The next match is in two days on Sunday at 2PM German time, Dachau vs. Berlin. It doesn't look like Berlin will take their portable streaming equipment with them on the long ride so no stream unfortunately.

The weekend after that the German Cup for the women will take place in Kolbermoor. I will make a post on Monday about with all the details.

Dachau vs Berlin 1-6

Itagaki/Pranjkovic vs Surjan/Neumann 0-3
Cosic/Ernst vs Bajor/Griesel 1-3
Itagaki vs Griesel 2-3
Cosic vs Bajor 1-3
Pranjkovic vs Neumann 2-3
Ernst vs Surjan 3-2
Itagaki vs Bajor 1-3
Cosic vs Griesel 0-1
Pranjkovic vs Surjan
Ernst vs Neumann

Another one-sided match for something that should have been a highlight as Dachau's upper pair was out. Winter is slightly injured and hopes she can recover for the Champions in Doha. Byun got sick and cancelled the match only a few hours before the start. That said there still were some close matches. The current U15 youth champion Itagaki moved into the upper pair, same as Griesel who is now ranked above Surjan and they went to full distance with Griesel winning. Cosic is now main player for Dachau's first team, but had to move into the upper pair yesterday and got a game off of Bajor. Pranjkovic lost a very close match against Neumann 11-13 in the decider. Ernst was the only one to win a match that day for Dachau against Surjan. It was actually her first win this season as she mainly plays for the second team. Berlin's goal is not to get everyone in the team to qaulify for the play-offs meaning they have to play three singles during the second half of the season for the ones that haven't qualified yet. I think it's unlikely though that Liu Weishan or Sun Mingyang will play any Bundesliga matches. Champions League is where they are needed.

The next match takes place on January 18 at 10.30AM, Berlin vs Weil, but before that the German Cup for the women is happening this weekend. I will make a separate post for it.

Women's German Cup 2026

Time: January 10/11
Place: Kolbermoor

Almost a week after the men the women will play out the winner of the German cup. Unlike the men's it's a bigger event in term of competition. There are four groups with three teams each and only the winner of each group will advance to the semi-finals the day after. All of the teams from the 1. Bundesliga are qualified as well as five other teams from the 2. and 3. Bundesliga that qualified through prior tournaments. The groups are:

Group A:
TSV Dachau 65
TTC 46 Weinheim
SV Friedrichsgabe

Group B:
TSV Langstadt
TTG Bingen/Münster-Sarmsheim
SU Neckarsulm

Group C:
ttc berlin eastside
ESV Weil
TuS Fürstenfeldbruck

Group D:
SV DJK Kolbermoor
TTC Langweid
TTF Rastatt

The playing system is different to us amateurs. The women are using the TTBL system including doubles so whoever reaches three points first will win. You can choose player positions freely, but the number one (A) can not play the doubles match. It looks like this:

A - B
B - A
C - C
A - A
D1 - D1

The event starts at 11AM German time on Saturday. Each group gets one table so there will be four matches concurrently. The DTTB should stream the event like in the past, but the links aren't up yet. At 6.30PM the draw for the semi-finals will happen which start at 11AM on Sunday. The final will start at 1.30PM. Berlin won last year and is the favourite again this year. If Paranang plays Langstadt could be another contender. Dachau should be up there as well, but Winter is injured and will be in Doha.

I will probably miss most of Saturday as my team somehow qualified for the semi-finals of our district's cup and I'm not sure how long it will take because it's a big event with all four divisions of the cup playing at the same time.

The livestream links for the women's German Cup are up:

Saturday:

Group A
Group D

Sunday:

Semi-final Table 1
Semi-final Table 2
Final

Group B and C are missing. Not sure if this means there won't be streams for those groups. Also, I forgot to mention this here, but Kolbermoor's chopper Gotsch is retiring at the age of 57. She has unfortunately problems with the blood vessels in her brain and the doctors advised her to quit playing. The risk for bleeding is too high otherwise. Kolbermoor is planning to send her off into retirement after the semi-finals on Sunday.

I'm back and the German Cup is still live. Only two tables are being streamed and we are currently in the second match of each group.

Livestreams

Group A
Group D

I haven't looked at the scores yet and will post them when everything is over, but the biggest surprise so far is Rakovac beating Kaufmann 3-0.

EDIT: the German forum joked and I didn't get it. Rakovac beat Kaufmann's sister Alexandra without any trouble. She is an A-level coach, but basically breakfast for a 1. Bundesliga player.

Not too much to say. Kolbermoor had the easiest group since they didn't have any opponent from the same league. Dachau unfortunately was without Winter and Byun again so it looked like Weinheim had it easy, but Chien and Wan definitely struggled and Weinheim's new player Matiunina had to overcome Itagaki. Highlight of the day and absolutely worth a watch is the match between Langstadt and Bingen that went the full distance. Paranang was present, but lost against the pips player Shi who won both her singles. Schreiner was down 0-2 against Rakovac, defended a match point in game 4 and ultimately won the match. It came down to the wire in the doubles when Schreiner and Morsch were down 1-2 and 4-8 in the fourth game and miraculously won that game and went on to secure the decider.

As a viewer I must say I was annoyed by the constant ads for the TT Finals in June that seemed to randomly drop sometime during breaks. I would rather see the table and maybe hear some of the coaching. The streams were working without issues, though. Just some hick-ups with the scoreboard not being correct. I think about 400 people were live in Kolbermoor and most of them stayed for the final match that was Langstadt vs Bingen that went over three hours.

Right afterwards the draw for the semi-finals happened. It's actually the same teams as last year, but different matches this time. For reference:

German Cup 2025/2026

Semi-finals:

Kolbermoor vs Langstadt 3-1
Weinheim vs Berlin 1-3

Final

Kolbermoor vs Berlin 0-3

This year we are getting in the semi-finals:

Weinheim vs Langstadt

The matches start at 11AM German time and the final will begin at 2PM. Hopefully I won't oversleep lol

It’s kinda strange to see this happening while the Champions Doha event is on. Did Sabine Winter team made it through semis. What about Ying Han, is she playing league this season and did her team made it through?

Dachau lost against Weinheim in the group phase and didn't advance to the semi-finals. Han Ying is not playing league in Germany.

The semi-finals are finished. Here are the scores:

Kolbemoor vs Berlin 2-3

Kaufmann vs Shan 3-2
Zavarykina vs Kaneyoshi 0-3
Huang vs Mittelham 3-2
Kaufmann vs Kaneyoshi 1-3
Huang/Jokic vs Mittelham/Surjan 1-3

Weinheim vs Langstadt 3-2

Matiunina vs Schreiner 3-1
Wan vs Paranang 1-3
Chien vs Mantz 3-1
Matiunina vs Paranang 1-3
Wan/Chien vs Schreiner/Morsch 3-0

Both matches went the full distance. Kolbermoor bet on Kaufmann getting two points, but Kaneyoshi stayed unbeaten and Berlin could secure the doubles. Noteworthy is that Berlin is there with full force except the Chinese players. Weinheim's new player Matiunina has been doing well so far and they let her even play on position 1, but Berlin will be very hard to beat. The final between Weinheim and Berlin starts in about 10 minutes at 3:20PM German time.

The final is over and the favourite Berlin has won the German Cup for the eleventh time. It was a clean win even though Weinheim had their chances in all of the matches. Good result for Weinheim making it to the final for the first time especially after the horrible first half of the season. At the end of the day Berlin had the biggest and strongest roster and you need to bring your A game during every point to beat them.

Very sad news: Langstadt is disbanding both the women's first and second team after this season (1. and 2. Bundesliga). It's too much effort to keep everything running with so few volunteers they say. No news where the players will go.

The sport just seems to be dying a slow death everywhere. Fan coming in brings in some money but there needs to be a way to better make the money flow round.

Fan is attracting a lot of Chinese fans. I don't know if he had a positive pull on new people from here. The women's game is even less attractive here unfortunately. I have given up on asking my club mates to watch Weinheim matches. Most people playing just don't care. One guy wants to see Kaufmann and he will come for that match, but otherwise no dice. I had a few people come along once and then never again and the manager always asks me how many are joining me to no avail. If you pay attention to the average age of live viewers it's shockingly high. Life long club people/fans basically. Same for the men's game and the volunteers are on the older side too. You are not getting kids to watch even though we have plenty of kids playing in the bigger area. Weinheim's other club whose venue the Bundesliga women are now playing in is really big on youth development, but you don't see them bringing teams to watch. I practice in Lampertheim too and almost of the live viewers for 3. Bundesliga team are the club people I swear lol. I have heard Saarbrücken's second team (2. Bundesliga) basically has no one watching live.

Langstadt pulling out is very worrisome. You are supposed to have eight teams in the league which they already can't fill and now only six teams? I would not push further with the competition. Maybe put 1. Bundesliga and 2. Bundesliga together, but that's unlikely to happen with the cost being too high.

I wonder if in the future they will combine the mens and womens TTBL sport rights together when selling them to streaming services instead of separately.

I don’t expect equal pay between both genders in TTBL but the women should at least get decent live streams like the mens.

I know people are keen for the home and away games but I wonder if that model can continue in the foreseeable future especially for the womens TTBL. Would playing at one venue only for the womens TTBL allow it to be more sustainable than having to go to different venues each week. No need to travel between different cities each week and could keep costs down.

At the moment most of the women's clubs stream for free on YouTube. Berlin has the best set-up, but they also have the most money. Weinheim's coach is in charge of streaming and he is still figuring stuff out. Dachau without streams is a headache honestly because people would definitely watch Winter play.

I honestly don't like Dyn and I would probably stop watching the matches if Dyn got their hands on the rights, but the DTTB doesn't really give a shit about the women. Just compare the web pages for TTBL and the women's 1. Bundesliga. It's night and day. Even mytischtennis.de barely writes about the women. You would kill the audience I expect if the women's game also got locked behind a paywall.
