Very little celebration for Miwa and the Japanese team ?
yes its not the Olympics, nor the World Champs, but still ! its the Asian champs ! its almost as good !

biggest mystery today
I agree. I thought they'd be breaking through the barriers and jumping up and down. Because this was historic and almost never happens.

Congratulations gold medalists Japan!
Hirano, CM, and WMY may have just extended their careers.

Asian champs atmosphere has always felt rather muted from what I can recall, apart from 2017. The weird audio this edition probably contributes to that perception too.

says Miwa does it!
told ya so a while ago... MIWA is the real thing !! She is THE ONE !!!
So did I, so did I :) I was proclaiming Miwa top 5 already in terms of consistency sometime before the Olympics. (Let me zeio a bit, even if without citing my own posts ;) )

I mean, I know I'm overenthusiastic, but I love this kid so much!

The CNT men's team is vulnerable too, probably even more so. They'll need to get past a dangerous Korean team that almost beat them even with FZD and ML playing last year, and then probably face a team with LYJ and Kao.
LSD has stabilized the team IMHO so they are not that vulnerable. Korea is always a threat though but they have to get and stay hot.

Odo is the luckiest. She becomes an 8-dan with this team title, without a single win. Team event doesn't count but Odo and Yokoi become 8-dan for winning WD.

10-dan
Ito, Tokyo 2020 (Also 8-dan, ATTC 2024)
9-dan
Ishikawa, WTTC 2017
8-dan
Hirano, ATTC 2017; ATTC 2024
Hayata, ATTC 2021; ATTC 2024
Harimoto, ATTC 2024

Odo, ATTC 2024
Yokoi, ATTC 2024

Congrats to the JNT and Miwa in particular! Can't forget about Hurricane Miu's contributions too, she's what Miwa's brother missed on his team when he pulled off the two wins!
It's pretty crazy to think that the last two times a player was able to beat two core CNT players in a team series happened to be from the same family.

Was it just my imagination, or was Miwa blocking a lot more like her bro in this match too? Lot of push-down backhand blocks and even some of those swiping control FH blocks that HT does often.

biggest mystery today
For quality of the match, Asian champs is just as good as worlds and Olympics. China and Japan are the top twp in women's table tennis for the last 10+ years.

It's going to get really interesting in WS now. In the top half if everything goes according to ranking, we could get Miwa vs CXT. If Miwa wins, we could get a Miwa vs. SYS rematch. In the bottom half, we could see a Hirano vs. WYD with winner possibly taking on Hayata though not sure about Hayata's playing condition given that she hasn't played since the Olympics. Hirano actually has a very good chance of coming out of the bottom half.

Because they are still scared of the Chinese team... it has cost them from closing out a few close calls historically, but awesome that they could do it on this day

Does anyone know if the girls get any ranking points for this win? None for Ma Lin for sure, fans are already calling for him to step down.

Singles is a different ball game, but hopefully the win gives them all the belief to go further.

KM/SXY: I thought we would get at least one gold medal (WT) no??
Reporter: So what happened?
Ma Lin: we were at a disadvantage, because we were XYZ
