Butterfly to relaunch custom-made blade service.

As many here know, Butterfly discontinued its custom blade service in 2016 after they found people were abusing the service to resell blades at marked up prices. The service is set to return this Spring, with new changes to the system. Here are some key details:

1. All blades, including discontinued ones such as the Gergely, can be ordered.
2. You can only purchase through authorized Butterfly dealers.
  • These applications must be done face to face.
  • After submitting an application you are then entered into a lottery.
  • Names are then draw at the end of the month to determine the winner.
  • You can only win the lottery twice a year.
3. As of now there are four grip designs you can choose from (not sure if this is shakehand only or all grips)
4. Blades can be specified in 1g increments from 84-93g
5. The price is, unsurprisingly, going to be steep. Twitter user momoneko_TTC (the source of the aforementioned information), ordered a 90g custom Viscaria. The cost, including tax, was 52,800 yen, plus an 1100 yen registration fee to the JTTA ($355 USD in total).

I imagine this is going to be Japan only for now. Interested to see if it will come to other countries.
