Nah I don't know about forseen, Kamal is still a beast at his age. Ady broke through in a close one.

Think Kamal lost to Thakkar recently in UTT and maybe some other player (I forget who) who is much lower ranked.

He's still very good but I believe he's slowing down. He was rightfully the favorite, but 10-1 favorite is too wide and based on his past achievements rather than his current state.

A big controversy at 10-9 in the 5th Set.

Just as DHK is about to win the point and the match, a screw from the table breaks off and the umpire calls Let.

Big discussion.

I'll go ahead and say that's a bad call. Nobody even noticed that it came loose and especially not Bergstrom because it was impossible for her to see it.

The ref literally called stop and raised his hand AFTER it was clear Bergstrom sent the ball wide and out of play.

I think it is easy to say this with the benefit of hindsight. I would need the details of who he lost to, Sharath plays decently in the UTT, it is a best of three and team oriented so i don't view it the same as regular matches. Everyone drops off with age, and Kamal is not invincible. But I don't see the match as anything that was predictable without the benefit of hindsight. Ady played really well. Maybe Kamal wasn't 100% with his touch but Ady showed good touch as well and got the opening attack more often than usual against a vet like Kamal.

She loses 1-3 to someone she beat 3-0 the last time they played and the first thing that comes out is being overrated. Alright.

I read Miwa's interview.
She said she treated He as a "practice partner" only (for China main players) and thought it would been an easy match.

Obviously, we know what happened and how Miwa end up struggling when the first game didn't go as planned.
She said she was struggling to beat He during the first 3 balls and trying to beat her during rallies and from there, she ran out of plans. She was not prepared to struggle against He, while He had a plan against her.

From here, Miwa said, she realized the threat is not just the main Chinese players, but any other player in the Chinese team are also very good.

So she was irritated with how she prepared.
Hopefully she learns from her mistake.

Where is this interview? It's really funny that she didn't respect the difference in material and thought it was all about playing level.

someone sent it to me (chinese version)
I think its not about difference in playing material, since Miwa knows how to play pips.
The problem was her mindset and when the ease of going through points didn't come, she panic and wasn't able to adapt.

Isn't the characteristic of most young players? That's part of their learning process.
I am sure next time these two meet, Miwa will do a much better job.

...
That doesn't sound like Miwa to say she thought it would have been an easy match. Sounds more like the opinion of the interviewer.

Nonetheless, live and learn. These experiences are valuable. I'm sure Miwa will be fine.

Suh is just a tricky opponent. Not the most consistent but she's made in roads at majors (WTTC2021 QF, WTTC2023 and SS2024 R16) despite being sidelined by KNT. I'm surprised she's still playing after commentating for the Olympics but good for her.

Shan Xiaona also breaks her losing streak by beating Szocs 3-1, the latter is already out of WD as well after losing to Kihara/Miwa.

Do you think the let call for Pitchord's serve vs Ma Long was justified? Not vertical, really? I think pure bs, and it's like players have no defense against it... I think L.P. played very well.

She is very consistent, it is easy to forget she had her big splash over a decade over winning the Korean Open. She is just getting older and because the new ball makes some things easier and other things harder, she can't bring it every day or compete with some players like she used to. I

It’s the fact he tosses the ball up and slightly backwards, and Patricia Lu has a good view of whether the ball goes back or not (basically if she can’t see the ball it’s vertical, if she can it’s not) and also the assistant has a very very good view on whether or not it was not vertical. Maybe the angle of Pitchfords toss back was not too far back to warrant a warning but I do see why not vertically is a justification for umpires calling a let

and if i’m not mistaken Burgos vs LSD was called for tossing the ball up and forwards on his reverse pendulum
