I did some calculation and it turned out that even if Ningbo losses to Shanghai in the final round, it will still advance as No. 1 because of set tie breaker among Ningbo, Bayi, and Luneng. If Ningbo losses and Bayi and Luneng win their respective matches in the last round (Round 18), Ningbo will be No.1 (9 win 8 loss 1 net win), Bayi No. 2 (9 win 9 loss 0 net win), and Luneng No.3 (8 win 9 loss 1 net loss). Call me conspiracy paranoid, but I do believe that Ningbo did not try to win against Bayi today because it does not want Luneng to be No. 2. This round it determined who would be No. 2, and next round, it will determine who will be No. 4. Ningbo is controlling everybody's fate. Well, what can we say? It earned the right to be on the driver's seat.

I retract what I said about Ningbo not trying to win over Bayi and not wanting Luneng to be No. 2. On second thought, I think Ningbo doesn't care who will be No. 2 as long as it can maintain No. 1 position at the least expense, meaning give young player a chance and give Ma Long/Yan An a rest. I mean, what's the benefit of Luneng not being No. 2 anyway? Unless Ningbo considers Luneng being an easy opponent among Bayi, Shanghai, or Jiangsu. Last year it may be the case, but I don't think this year Ningbo still considers Luneng an easy opponent.

maybe ma long wants to prove himself against Zhang jike in the finals :) I am up for that!

If that's the case, Ningbo should make sure that Luneng advance as No. 2 so that the two could only meet in the final. Actually, as long as Ningbo advances as No. 1, it could choose who it wants to meet in the semifinal.

ahahahhahahahhaha :) ML had something to do with it ;):p.

I got what you are trying to say.:p Anyway, even it's true that Ningbo doesn't want Luneng to be No. 2 which is not true (I retract what I had said), it won't be Ma Long's doing but Ningbo's management's.

Ma Long just posted this on his Facebook profile:

"Today I beat my good friend Wang Hao, but it was not enough and we still lost, but it's ok as we have already made the finals.

Today we gave more chances to the younger players, which is why I only played one singles and one doubles. Also I'm feeling a bit tired after the season and need to recover before the finals."

Since when ML has facebook? I thought fb are banned in China?

I really love to watch how Wang Hao deals with defenders. It always looks so easy, now against Joo and few months ago against Masato. It seems he does not look for tactics like Zhou You, his FH is so powerfull, that he does not need any tactics.
