Where the ball is contacted is driven by bat angle and bat orientation.
Direction or plane of swing has no real relevance on the contact point.
True, but if you don't have an upwards motion when hitting at the 2 o'clock point you will simply hit the ball into the net or table unless the ball is very high.

Spin also plays a big part!!
if the incoming ball is loaded with topspin then contacting at 2 o’clock with a flat stroke plane and The ball is likely to go over. If you are blocking the a slightly downwards movement is needed.
So many variables!!
