In general ... if I may say this, you have to accept our (East EU country) perspective on the worldview too. 1989' - 91' are the years when the Communism in the East Europe fell and all the countries behind the "Iron curtain" regained their freedom (political sovereignty, freedom of speech, etc.). It was relatively peaceful process. "Round table" in Poland, split of Czech and Slovakia, Hungary, Ukraine, Lithuania, and more. Well I also remember the dramatic end of the regime in Romania.

See we, look at those events in a way that we "Made it". No one even thinks about coming back to the Communism now ... are we imperialistic because of this?
We probably need to accept a differences in our thinking, as this forum is free an open for any opinions.

I'm not so sure about people not thinking about Communism. The way I see former Eastern bloc from the news is that the people there have lost their way after the collapse of communism. Instead of embracing the legacies left behind, the people have chosen to reject their past(see @4:16 in video below).

I agree with what Baal said. Let's discuss patriotism a bit.

For poor and communist countries patriotism is very important not only in sport success but also in many other areas. They use it to ask their citizen to sacrify wealth, health, properties, and even life for a better future of the countries. It is a form of manipulation to its best. Vietnam and China are good at this.

Last pic is for fun just to show another way to encourage players....

Take a look at Vietnam U23 soccer team in 2018 AFC championship held in China. Soccer is a very physical game, not like TT. This is a team with small player size and physical strength, perhaps decent skills, and a disciplined teamwork. It amazingly tied Syria, beat Australia, Iraq, Qatar, and only lost to Uzbekistan in the final. BTW, China could not get through its Group A. It seemed patriotism and some luck helped these players to reach such place unprecedentedly. Their Prime Minister even encouraged them to play harder in the final for national pride!
So don’t underestimate the patriotism card in these countries. China with huge population and record of human rights abuse will use it and do anything to succeed or defend its national sport.
