Ah, thanks for filling in a memory! I do remember some guy saying that Oceania players don’t deserve to be there. I’m just worried since I was part of the conversation, they might think I was a troller too 😅 since I said he was the goat.
I don’t think you will be in trouble. You probably thought the impersonator was the account of the official NZ player. May I ask was the impersonation of the NZ player one of the players currently playing at this World Cup?

I bet all this dramatics is just from some 15 year old talking mess on the internet. It's a shame that people take anonymous internet bs so seriously
We will never know what was said by the impersonator unless either TTNZ or someone else who saw the live chat says what was said.

But if the perpetrator does end up being from NZ and underage and depending on what they said will most likely get name suppression due to being a minor and just a fine and private apology to the victim, to the player that was impersonated and to TTNZ but if an adult is from NZ name suppression will most likely not happened if they proceed with criminal charges.

It's def distasteful, but unless there's like explicit murder threats is this really a police matter. This seems overblown, idk

I'm hearing Kasumi ISHIKAWA and Mima ITO are filing a complaint against Zeio next
From what I heard, I am not alone and we'll be in this together, brothers in arms. (1, 2, 3, 4, 5)

OTOH, it cracks me up to see the OP act holier-than-thou here while being caught red-handed spreading fake news of Miwa and the CNT (with the audacity to post the video clip on his YouTube channel).

However one spins it, critical opinions based on facts and backed by stats =/= disinformation due to the lack of critical thinking and due diligence, whether by intention or not. Drawing parallels between the latter and the impostor(s) would be far more appropriate here.

Enough time wasted.

It may be overblown but remember the victim is a minor so more likely to take it more seriously compared to an impersonator targeting an adult.

If it was just normal chat I believe NZTT would not have got NZ police and ITTF involved. It has to been something serious that was said by the impersonator.

I suspect everyone involved is a minor. I def feel bad for the kid, though. I wish young people didn't take the internet so seriously. It really just seems to bring out the worst in people, but that's a nuanced societal dilemma too big for a table tennis EJ forum :)

I literally forgot who was impersonating who. But I remember someone calling the impersonator out.

How did the victim find out what was said by the impersonator if they were playing the match. I reckon the adults shouldn’t have told the victim what was said especially cause they were a minor.
good point
I didn't ask though
but the TT community is so small. Since there is possibly only 1 way for New Zealander to watch, there is a good chance friends/family all was on that live match stream and all witnessed the abuse.

ITTF seem to have got rid of the live chat on youtube streams and turned off commenting on the videos as well.

Good decision by ITTF after this incident. All it takes is a few bad eggs ruining for everyone. Most of the live comments were fine but some comments went overboard.
it is few rotten apples destroying everything for everyone.
and it is always the rotten apples that get the spotlight, not the 99.9% good fans.

This is horrible. I was watching the live match, and every time an Aussie or Kiwi player comes on, the chat is flooded with annoying comments. I'm glad they turned it off. It’s such a proud moment seeing my people competing on such a big stage especially knowing how little funding and resources they actually get. They’ve done incredibly well. It’s just such a shame that some people choose to ruin that moment with their negativity.

and when Japanese women comes on, like the anti Hayata campaign not so long ago, it was sickening to see all those hate messages too.
The China-Japan problem is like from decades ago and majority of the people typing those messages were not even born when Japan was the devil in Asia. But now, they think, the wheels have turned, it is okay to be online devil.

It is probably good the comments are turned off.
they turn it on to help gain traffic/traction.
But there are a group of sour people whose life mission is to make other people miserable, especially those players they dislike.

Probably not as prevalent as the Oceania players but People say the same things for Canadians, Americans, and all of the Americas as well apart from Calderano. It’s why I have a lot of sympathy and support for the Oceania players.

Even my own friends (they and I are Canadian) were bullying Edward and Eugene (not cyber bullying, but saying amongst our group) saying they “are complete dogshit and should never touch contender events let alone the World Cup”

its crazy to call Eugene that
he was a top 50 player in the world for a long time.

World events is representation from all parts of the world, so I think those people just don't understand how sports works.

But the inflation of world ranking points due to a "fair" continental point is very questionable and this has probably damage players more than they have helped imo.

at first, some people probably also saw Kanak as a beneficiary of such points, until he started to cement his spot by beating strong players regularly.
However, most of the players I know who benefit from this are mostly very humble. Like I even joked with a mate of mine saying you are closed to world rank 100 now. He was like brushing off and saying it was all thanks to 1 win in Oceania and he is far from WR100 level.... It is really only heming hu who is bloating his status, making himself sound like a pro player, while he still has some distance to even semi pros from my side., everyone else I know is very humble (which includes USA, Canada, Australia and NZ players) and it is not the players fault that continental points weighs the same everywhere. they do benefit though from it, but without that, we would never see them in many events. So it is a tough one indeed.

end of the day, it is probably easy for humans just to be a bit less bullying. imagine when you are 22 or 24 years old and fans are calling for your retirement. How is that sportsmanship? I believe sportsmanship is also required in fans.
