Probably not as prevalent as the Oceania players but People say the same things for Canadians, Americans, and all of the Americas as well apart from Calderano. It’s why I have a lot of sympathy and support for the Oceania players.
Even my own friends (they and I are Canadian) were bullying Edward and Eugene (not cyber bullying, but saying amongst our group) saying they “are complete dogshit and should never touch contender events let alone the World Cup”
its crazy to call Eugene that
he was a top 50 player in the world for a long time.
World events is representation from all parts of the world, so I think those people just don't understand how sports works.
But the inflation of world ranking points due to a "fair" continental point is very questionable and this has probably damage players more than they have helped imo.
at first, some people probably also saw Kanak as a beneficiary of such points, until he started to cement his spot by beating strong players regularly.
However, most of the players I know who benefit from this are mostly very humble. Like I even joked with a mate of mine saying you are closed to world rank 100 now. He was like brushing off and saying it was all thanks to 1 win in Oceania and he is far from WR100 level.... It is really only heming hu who is bloating his status, making himself sound like a pro player, while he still has some distance to even semi pros from my side., everyone else I know is very humble (which includes USA, Canada, Australia and NZ players) and it is not the players fault that continental points weighs the same everywhere. they do benefit though from it, but without that, we would never see them in many events. So it is a tough one indeed.
end of the day, it is probably easy for humans just to be a bit less bullying. imagine when you are 22 or 24 years old and fans are calling for your retirement. How is that sportsmanship? I believe sportsmanship is also required in fans.
