I played Nam twice when I was 1800 or so - won a game I think both times, but the first time, I had an out of body experience and was killing him until I woke up...

I lost to Naveen the only time I played him in a tournament I think when I was 1800 or so, though I can't see why you would lose to him unless he has improved a lot. If you return his serve properly, all his kill shots don't work.

Naveen has holes like everyone else, but his touch is superb and he is two winged. If you go Rambo on him, he isn't gunna stop you, but all in all, Naveen plays at or near 2000 and his 2000ish league rating is not a mistake or fluke.

We have similar win percentage vs each other, often, when he is in a hurry to leave we do rock paper scissors... pretty much a fair result had we played.

He takes lessons at no va ttc and maybe also at mdttc.

Nam is legit 2200+ and he has been so dialed in getting ready for NA Teams...

Still, I like my team, for our level, pound for pound we are gunna pound it and fight vs anyone same or 1.5 levels better. Nothing is gunna be free.

What is funny about all this is that at Smash where I am generally the no 2 player in the club, I might be rated under 1800.

When that happens, there will be a 250 point difference.

I also just realized my team for NA Teams 2016 is entirely a foreign team. Even Der_Echte has lived over half his adult life away from America.

Today I am helping out in our 3.League team as replacement. Let's see if I can hold my own in the higher league :)

And this time i will take the tripod with me and try to get some footage! Please remind me once again in about six hours!

Goodluck Boogar, hopefully you didn't party too hard yesterday ;)

Don't forget to take your tripod with you!

Btw, most of you guys use your phone to record?

Thanks :) No party yesterday... well only a little one.

I won't forget! I hope they let me record them.

I use my phone to record and i am quiet satisfied with the quality. Btw the video of me doing fh topspins that i posted recently. I just leaned the phone against my rubber cleaner :) All you rly need is a high enough platform.

That's very decent quality indeed, no need to buy a dedicated camera.

It happens regularly that opponents won't let you record the match?

I haven't filmed any matches with players from other clubs so far. So i can't tell. However I think that might be a problem.

How are you handling this NL?

Went to my usual Saturday lesson. Felt really tired today maybe due to me not getting enough rest during the work week. Posted a very edited short video. I edited out all the huffing, puffing and wheezing :D Your opinions and critiques are welcomed.

1. I still notice i am not relaxing enough and once i get ramped up...i cannot slow myself down. Must remember to maintain a medium pace so i can feel i have enough energy to finish the lesson and maintain proper techniques.

2. My backhand is coming along slowly...still have a lot of timing issues. I keep dropping the racket too low sometimes.

3. Tried the Otcharov backhand serve at the end of the training session...i can get the effect where the opposing player will pop up the return, just don't have the timing down to do the backhand loop kill yet.

Here is my bit of backhand dilemma. Modern coaches advocate a short wrist snap backhand even when looping. The benefits is you get a short stroke, wont be late to the ball and its safer. But i learned a lot of my backhand techniques in the 80s and i feel dropping the racket and meeting the ball semi-low will generate a lot of spin. Yes, i know the 80s backhand is not quick enough for the modern game...too big of a stroke.

Here is a 7 minute edited video of my training session. Thanks:D

Good stuff. Would relax more and try to make the ball go slower and with more spin. I know in your club you have all these chinese rubber counterlooping kids that will kill that ball once they break 2000, but in the real world, people block slow and heavy topspin off the table.

Good luck, have fun and spin, spin, spin!!!

John Olsen is a solid and consistent player. Very good to train with. Duke Nuke em Skywalker already knows but say for everyone.

It is important to have a player to train with who is sound and consistent.

Very. And it's nice that he dabbled in chopping for a while....
