Well one thing for sure, Pro's are not using Star labelled H3.

I think we got lost in the topic for specificity common player are unable to extract.
Their training sheets may be. They look identical and seem to perform basically the same. Granted the differences may be small enough that no normal player, be it amateur or semi-pro, can tell when they try them compared to the actual real ones.

The sheets for matches seem to be different. They have specific markings for the event. I think the reason is they're priority batch but more importantly they're ensuring the evenness and glossiness are within specs. Those do get checked at WTT and Olympics.

This guy claims to played with National Team for years.
In this video he shines light on the whole W968 drama / story / FOMO.

TL;DR what I took from the video:
  • What you can buy is not what Ma Long gets
  • The highest QC blades are for the National team
  • What you can buy are production leftovers
  • Price is set so high, because of the manufactured scarcity (distributors only get a couple every month)
  • No.1, No.2 .... No.XYZ is all the same (10:00 timestamp).

Yes for sure, but last point is not true. Top pro's champ uses 1/2/3 because it is the best of the batch. No blade are identical for various reasons we talked earlier. How they chose their blade, is they get proposed dozens of them, and they looks test the blade with the look, weight, feel, noise, even smell sometimes. And usually, the n1/2/3 are taken by the pros. Because they number them with 1 2 3 being the best according to them, and then the player choses the blade and usually it matches DHS numbering. But like he said, you can find a similar blade numbered 23. And yet again, us amateur, we don't need to worry about that for our playing blade. A regular w968 will be very good, if not too fast.

Why would the first blade that gets cut be the best? It makes no sense. They make the whole day's, and probably a lot of other days', from the exact same wood with the exact same machines, workers, processes and QC.

Ma Long used 1 because he picked the first one from each day's batch when he tested blades for the year. He doesn't have time to test thousands of blades. Even if he tests all the blades made in one month, it'd still be over a thousand.

He picks one when he found one he likes, no need to test a thousands. They pick it like this
He is proposed bunch blades and usually they pick one blade numbered 1 to 3. But maybe they are proposed multiple batch blades with only 3 blades numbered 1 to 3 for each batch, so there is more variety in the blade proposed, that way it could explains why he got 1 to 3 number. Also, it does not means better quality, but better for his liking.

The blades are produced in an assembly line fashion, with 1 being the first one produced, and 50~ being the last one produced.

Now if Ma Long gets some special blades just for himself, I don't know. That's just what DHS sponsored pros claim.

Welp, the guy from the video I posted, claims that top stars get special completely separate blades ^^ I do not know if that is true, but the guy was on the national team on the similar time Ma Long played, so...

I don't imagine it would be untrue. He's China's best athlete ever. Why would they not optimize every little tiny detail? The costs are immense so you won't really do it for absolutely everyone. For sure the market W968 are basically rejects from the B-team of the CNT. :p

In order to check my sources, and make sure I am not spreading miss information. I did run it through the AI analysis. I pulled the audio, run it through Whisper, then claude compared the transcription to youtube transcription. Bellow is the result.

That is the best I can do, since I do not understand or know the language author is speaking.

And TBH.. That is the same strategy I would use. Retooling production to mark blades after selection sounds like a pain in the butt. I would sincerely mark the whole cluster of blades before handles are added. Sounds like a much more efficient technology. You can mark 20-30 blades at a time.

Claude Code I think. But I use band underneath to use like 3 different agent providers to collaborate. I do not trust one to be accurate. Wanted to make sure I do not share false information accidentally.

Yes I agree with that. But DHS book, states there is only 1 W968, not multiple lol. Do you have it ? You might enjoy it, you seem to get interest in that kind of stuff. I enjoyed reading it (thanks Google translate too).

There are multiple documented W968 versions.
