Good start for Ort - GWB is leading Dusseldorf 2-0. Shinozuka beat Li 3-1, and Apolonia Jha 3-0.

Anton beat Ric, so now it's up to Shinozuka against Jha.

Anyone watching this on tabletennis.tv?
Kanak lost two matches, and really badly to Apolonia. Did Dusseldorf invest in the wrong guy?

In the first round he beat Meng and Groth to lead them to a 3-1 win over Fulda, so he's now 2-2.

This weekend Dusseldorf plays TWICE in Bad Konigshofen - today in the German Cup (round of 16), tomorrow in TTBL. Today Jha plays at the 3 spot against Habesohn (Daniel, not Mathias).

Habesohn has his best days behind him and since he was never a top 20 player, there's not going to be many good days as he ages.

I was at the game. Great time, great atmosphere in the hall and a nice underdog win for Bremen.

Aguirre played the game of his life there. The stars aligned a bit for him, as Fan looked pretty pedestrian in his first game. But Aguirre played like a man possessed and it was a well deserved win.

In the second game against Falck, Fan looked like his old self and it was definitely an experience to watch Fan Zhendong himself play from <10 meters away. Awesome experience.

I had heard about rude mannered chinese fans before the game. But there was nothing like that this evening. There were about 100 or so obviously chinese fans. They were wearing jerseys and flags and were cheering for Fan passionately, contributing to a unique, positive atmosphere in the hall.

A great evening well worth the travel.

Tabletennis.tv uses Fan Zhendong to advertise the German Cup tie today. I tune in - no Fan Zhendong! I want my money back...

More seriously, Verdonschot is a beast, too many good players everywhere, too few spots on national teams....

So it looks like Final four will be Ochsenhausen (who predicated they would get back after losing both Gauzy and Calderano), Fulda, Saarbrucken and Bad Homburg. This is the first year I have followed the Pokal where it felt to me like an FA Cup version of TT with all the upsets and lower division teams. Even with some of the same names, the teams have had real changes. And no Duesseldorf in the first year of Timo's retirement will cause some questions, though Dang and Kallberg will have to answer for that as it wasn't Kanak as Timo's replacement that caused the issue, though one can argue over whether it was best to use Haug in doubles and not use any foreigners at all in the lineup - never seen Lin Yongyang in doubles, but is he really worse than Haug?

clubs focus on Pokal and Bundesliga varies.
some focus on either, and some focus on both.
for one club to not focus on Pokal, is not strange to me.

Same applies if clubs qualify for ETTU cup or CL.
its all based on the managements focus.

So how does what you posted apply to what I wrote about? Curious. Which of the clubs you know are not focused on thr Pokal?

Why do you always have to argue with people? It's quite annoying and unpleasant.

Grunwettersbach is an example of a club that clearly didn't want to go far in the Pokal - they played round of 16 in Fulda with a B team. It's also (mostly?) a question of money, as the top players are contracted for a certain amount of matches only per year.

PS: Dusseldorf already missed Final Four last year, but that was because of a tough draw against Fulda.

Thanks for the example. I discussed Duesseldorf extensively. I was wondering what relevance a comment about some teams not focusing on the Pokal had to my post. Thanks for making jt clear ehat the relevance was and confirming my suspicious that there was no relevance.
