Has anybody tried PONGBOT table tennis robots?

I've been using the OMNI S PRO, and here are my thoughts:

Pros:
  • It offers endless possibilities for creating custom training sessions. You can program complex combinations of different skills, like a forehand push followed by a backhand loop and then a backhand flick.
  • The ball feeding is consistent and reliable. So far, I haven't had any issues with balls getting stuck in the robot.
  • It's easy to set up. The instructional video on the phone app is really helpful.
Cons:
  • The English app could use some improvements, especially compared to the Chinese version.
Hi @jackwilsontt, I've just got an Omni S Pro too. I can't connect the bot to my android phone. The app just says "unable to find nearby bluetooth devices". Could you please tell me what's your robot's manufacturing date, and what type of phone are you using, iphone or android?

Hi there,

Could you please email us at [email protected] with the issue you encountered and take a photo of the back of the robot so that you can see a series number over there?

Once we receive this, our after-sales team will follow up to help you solve the problem.

The problem was that I had the Omni Pro robot, not Omni S Pro. I didn't know the difference.
Omni Pro only supports the chinese app. The "S Pro" line supports the English app.
Luckily I could return it and ordered Halo S Pro instead.

Yes, you are right.

OMNI S PRO is the international version that supports English and is workable in the English App.

only good for workout, nothing more. The trick to being good is to discern the spin and quality from your opponent racket and movement before they even hit the ball. Reacting to the ball doesn't work, it's too fast.

Robots are good for a few things.

1) Initial stroke development. If you can't make the shot with the quality and consistency you need even when you know the spin, speed, and placement, then a robot can help you with that.

2) Footwork. Training can be designed to stress your footwork. If you know where the ball is going and you still can't reach it with good footwork and then strike it with power (i.e. not just reaching for the ball, not just tapping it back), or if you're always flat footed between shots, then a robot can help.

You just need to be aware of the robot's limitations. As you mentioned, it can't help you read spin or anticipate direction, it also can't generate nearly the same amount of speed as a decent player can. It can help you fill some gaps in your game, just don't expect it to improve your game play until other gaps are also filled.

Seth "Pechpong TT" Pech made a good video about the usefulness of robots. He improved a lot in many skills and USATT levels and still uses it for training.

If you add robot training to your monthly program, you'll become a better player. No doubt about it. I've added returnboard training to my routine ("rbpon" as opposed to robot training alias robopon) and it has made me a better and more confident player. Next on my wish list is the Pongbot product, I feel it's going to be a game changer for my solo training and eventually my game and skill set, despite its limitations. Yes, the max ball speed and max spin seems (rather) limited compared with IRL club players or the Power Pong Omega but my verdict on this issue is still pending.

But most of all, rbpon is endless enjoyment (true joy) and self-satisfaction for me. Only after 10min in, I feel like a fish🦐 in the ocean🏊‍♀️, happy like a clam🗜️at high tide🌊. Today I did a 3h8min session, the day after tomorrow my next, etc., I just caht get enough of it (and I realize that it's me ... other club members do NOT enjoy rbpon -- maybe the same with swimming in an outdoor pool in the midday sun, I super enjoy it while others are fed up after 50yards and wanna get out), so much fun fun fun!

I imagine with the Nova I'll have even more fun with my solo workouts. It remains to be seen 🙈

You’re absolutely right that reacting to spin and ball quality from an opponent’s racket is key to success in real match play. PONGBOT robots, such as the NOVA S PRO, are designed with this in mind to help players enhance their skills in several areas. While robots may not fully replicate the unpredictability of an opponent's movement, they allow players to work on specific aspects like footwork, stroke consistency, and quick reactions to different types of spin.

The HALO S PRO, for example, offers adjustable spin, speed, and placement to simulate real game scenarios, making it ideal not only for physical workouts but also for improving technical skills. Many users find that after consistent use, they can apply these improvements in reading and reacting to opponent shots during live play.

So what's the ball ejection height on the Omni S Pro, when the 'Omni face' is straight facing the player?

And what's the ball ejection height on the Nova S Pro, when the 'Nova face' is straight facing the player?

Let's measure in millimeters from the table level to the center of the ball output, thanks!

Here is a very good unboxing video with the balls bouncing off very high on the Preset Drills, kinda hilarious me likey 😁 :
